My mother was Emma Payne Hoyt. She was born in Troy Oregon, but went to the 3rd grade in Brumley. Her mother spent most of 1928 with my great grandmother Emma Robinson. My great grandfather was Lemuel, my grandfather was James. James was the first to move to OR and my mother, who was his 3rd child, was the first of Lemuel's branch to be born in OR. She was born in Troy OR 4/1/1919. Troy is in the North East Corner of OR. I was born in LaGrande, Union County OR and raised in Union County. I now live in The Dalles, OR

I am retired from the U S Forest Service. My hobbies are computers, genealogy and collecting old family picture. I have several of Miller County people that I don’t have names for. I have only been interested in genealogy about 10 years and am very saddened at all the people I missed talking to about my roots. I have traced my Hoyt to early 1500’s in England. My Payne side only to 1795 and that is George Payne who is buried in Hawkins cemetery near Brumley.

Once when I visited Miller Co my uncle Wilford Robinson took us around to see where my ancestors had been. We stopped at the post office in Ulman and a lady in there was a distant cousin and she told me if you were related to one person in Miller County you were related to all of them. So I guess my answerer is I still have cousins there. I relate to McCubbin, Payne, Hickman, Patton, Hall, and so on. My great grandfather Alex Hall was murdered and left at the entrance to his property next to the Embry cemetery. His wife was Emma Alice Patton Hall Hickman Robinson. She moved away, but returned to Miller County and is buried in Gott Cemetery. She is next to her third husband and less than 20 feet from here 1st and 2 husband.

Here is my family history traced back through my mother:

Lemuel and Mary

MARY ANNETTE6 HICKMAN She married LEMUEL PORTER PAYNE October 25, 1879 in Miller Co MO, son of SAMUEL PAYNE and EMILY MCCUBBIN. He was born February 20, 1855 in Brumley, Miller Co, MO, and died April 05, 1937 in Elgin, Oregon.
