Grand Knight’s Report

Brothers all,

It's the middle of the summer and our schedule of activities is light. After a recharge, I hope that we come back in September with renewed spirit to continue our charitable works.

The Officers Installation was held on Saturday, July 17thand went very well. The 4th Degree Color Corps was in attendance to provide an escort and dignity to the event. I would like to thank our new DD, Jim Sweeney, his deputy, Bill Nolan, and to Fr. Dan for their support. The installation was followed by a light dinner. Thanks to Joe Barrett and all the other Knights and their facilities that helped out. It was a great evening.

Please remember the Business Meeting on August 11th (it should be short), the Parish Picnic on August 22nd, and the Annual Fishing trip on September 18.

Please enjoy the rest of the summer and if you are travelling on vacation, I wish all of you a safe journey.

Thanks. Vivat Jesus,

Dave Teller,Grand Knight

Chaplain’s Corner

The New Columbian Year has begun and the Council is presently without a chaplain. This will continue until the bishop appoints a pastor for St. Jude Parish. The present parish administrator, Father Joseph Orlandi, if appointed as pastor, has been asked and agreed to be our new Chaplain.

Deputy Grand Knight’s Report

As is with most organizations, attendance at summer meetings is generally minimal. This past month however we seemed to buck the trend by having a fairly significant turnout. And this was after a few forgot that we started earlier…We need to keep this up.

Now you might be asking “how can we do this?” Here are a few thoughts:

1)Everyone who has brought a member on board in the last two years should seek those brothers out and ask them to come to the next meeting on 8/11.

2)On the reverse of this, if you haven’t seen the member who is responsible for you being part of the Council at a meeting recently, pick up the phone and ask them to come. (Dan Fuller will be getting a call from me).

3)If you know of any brother who cannot make it due to transportation issues, either offer to drive them or let the Chancellor know and we’ll make arrangements to get them to and from the meeting.

4)Make sure you make it! Many of you are reading this newsletter and if you haven’t been around in a while, you might want to come to the next meeting and see the good things that are going on.

The last thing that I want to remind everyone is that we pray the Rosary before every meeting. In July it was very special in that we prayed the Rosary in the PrayerGarden. Come a ½ hour early and join in; it is a great way to relieve the stress of the day.

REMINDER--- The August meeting starts at 7:30 (Rosary at 7:00)

Respect Life Corner

As a Knight and pro life Catholic, it is often difficult to get the latest information on respect for life issues. The following resource has been a good provider on what is going on nationally and at the state level. Each topic gives a brief, easy to read synopsis of each topic with the ability to get the full article. It is very easy to subscribe to their free newsletter. I highly recommend that you add “Life News” to your regular reading list.

Are YOU Ready for Some Football?

Once again, Council 6100 is running the “FootballMania” fundraiser. For those of you unfamiliar with the Sweepstake, let me explain. FootballMania is an exciting opportunity for participants because each ticket holder has an equal chance of winning. There’s no need to be a football guru… Each ticket contains 3 random teams in each week of the 17 week season. That’s a different set of teams each week. No two tickets have the same 3 teams in any given week. Your $20 ticket covers you for the entire season!

Winning tickets are determined based on the points scored by the football teams assigned to it for that week. If two tickets have the same score, the total yards gained by the 3 teams is used as a tiebreaker. The best part is you have 6 chances to win every week, since the four highest scoring tickets and the two lowest scoring tickets each week win prize money! You also have the chance to win two grand prizes at the end of the season. Each ticket has a minimum 1 in 48 chance to win a prize during the season. But wait, there’s more! Last year the council sold over 100 tickets making us eligible to be part of the “Guaranteed Winners Program”, that ensured us of having 1 winner each week out of the tickets the council sold.

Weekly Winners and Prize Money

Ticket with the Highest Combined Score / $500
Second Highest Score / $200
Third Highest Score / $100
Fourth Highest Score / $50
Lowest Total Score / $50
Second Lowest Total Score / $25
Total Prize Money Paid per Week / $925

Grand Prize Winners and Payouts

Ticket with the Highest 17 Week Total / $1,000
Ticket with the Lowest 17 Week Total / $275
Total Grand Prize Money Paid / $1,275

Guaranteed Winners Program (if applicable)

Highest weekly score from your organization / $20

Here’s the bottom line: Last year we sold 102 tickets, paid out $550 in prizes to winners and made a profit of $1,157.00 for the council. Thanks to the 6 brothers who stepped up and sold 90% of the tickets. This year we’re shooting to sell 200 tickets. It’s a stretch but, just think, if 30 brothers sold 5-7 tickets we’d come very close! The tickets practically sell themselves, remember it’s a “Donation to the K of C” so, bring them to work, bring them to bowling night, bring them to the soccer/softball/baseball game or the next family gathering. You’ll be surprised at the interest they generate. Where else can you buy a $20 ticket and get 17 weeks/chances to win one of 7 prizes? The best part of the whole thing is you don’t need to track this from week – week, the council sends all prize money directly to the ticket holder!

So… GET READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!

Please contact Joe Mitru () for tickets or with any questions you may have.

St. Jude Church Family Picnic

Once again St. Jude Church will host a parish picnic, which will be held on Sunday, August 22ndat Schooley’s MountainPark, Springtown Road, LongValley from 2:00PM til 6:00 PM Rain or Shine. Ticket sales began in July. Cost is $15 per person, children 5 and under free with a maximum of $60 per family living in the same household. Tickets are sold after all masses.

K of C Council 6100 Fishing Trip

On Saturday, September 18th 2010 the annual fishing trip will take place. The “Eagle” Charter boat will leave the dock of the Atlantic Highlands Marina at 7:00am and return to the dock at 2:30pm. There are between 25-30 spots available at a cost of $70.00 per fisherperson. This includes fishing tackle, bait, gratuity for the mates, sandwiches, chips, and soft drinks. We will be caravanning from the church parking lot the morning of the trip, or you can meet at the boat. Knights and immediate family members will have first priority at a spot on the trip. If I do not get enough people I will open availability to friends of Knights. You are welcome to bring beer or any other beverage you want (no hard liquor). In order to hold a spot on the boat payment is expected in full. Your name will be added to the list as payments are received. I look forward to a great day of fishing and friends. Invitation to Pray

With Fellow Brothers and their Families

BROTHERS All are invited to pray Evening Prayer in the DAILY CHAPEL at 7:00 p.m. each Sunday. This time of prayer and meditation is only for a half-hour. Evening Prayer is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. In the Liturgy of the Hours, the Church fulfills Jesus’ command to “pray always” (Luke 18:1; see also 1 Thessalonians 5:17). Through this prayer, the people of God sanctify the day by continual praise of God and prayers of intercession for the needs of the world.

Insurance Message

A Way of Life

When was the last time your wife went shopping for the day and left you to mind the children? How would you handle this responsibility, day after day, plus having to work?

When I ask this question, I find that most of our members have closed their minds to this possibility. Unfortunately, it does happen, you know. No man likes to place a monetary value on his spouse. But money is the only thing that will give you a fighting chance to keep a semblance of a home for your kids should anything happen to your wife.

Many insurance men call it “wife insurance.” I like to call it “way of life” insurance. Call me today at (973) 527-4904 for an appointment to discuss your insurance needs. I want to hear from you.
