Job Title: Minibus Driver
Responsible to: Head of Service
Purpose of the Job:
Swale Inclusion Service is a Pupil Referral Unit which provides a service for the Mainstream Schools across Swale. We provide a service for students age 11-16 who have been identified as being at risk of permanent exclusion or who have been managed move to us to avoid permanent. Working with students who are spread geographically throughout Swale brings specific challenges. The mainstream schools are providing a variety of option lessons on their sites and as such the role will include transporting students to and from Swale Inclsuion Service site and their homes, as well as to and from mainstream schools option lessons.
Key duties and responsibilities:1. To report any incidents or problems with student’s behaviour to the school promptly. It is essential that the driver is trained in and aware of Safeguarding policy and reporting procedures.
2. To report any vehicle, satnav or other equipment issues to a member of the SLT promptly.
3. To ensure the vehicles are maintained and have sufficient fuel for each journey.
4. Headcount students on and off the bus, noting any who are missing and checking with parents and/or the school if advance notice of absence has not been given.
5. Ensure that all students are safely seated and wearing seatbelts before the journey begins and throughout the journey.
6. Ensure that all aisles and exits are clear during the journey.
7. Only using mobile phones in case of emergency or contact with the school and parents.
8. Listen to any complaints from the students and react accordingly.
9. Not tolerate any behaviour from the students which is loud or distracting.
10. Report to the School Office after each journey any incidents or problems, by email or in person. The log of all incidents is kept in the School office and it is an essential requirement that this is kept up-to-date daily.
Display a commitment to child protection and safeguarding. Report to the headteacher any behaviour by colleagues, parents and children which raises concern.
· Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
Person Specification
CRITERIAQUALIFICATIONS / D1 driving licence, if licence was issued after 1997.
EXPERIENCE / Experience of working with children in the service age range (11 to 16 years).
SKILLS AND ABILITIES / SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE /ATTITUDES / Good communication skills – clear and accurate with students, parents and colleagues.
Able to be assertive to establish and maintain good discipline and appropriate behaviour of students.
Patience and the ability to keep calm.
Attentive and observant.
