LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2018

Blanchester High School organizations and community groups will award several scholarships to class members. The following information is provided for you concerning the various scholarship criteria and amounts.

All senior students who are applying for local scholarships must:

  1. Complete the 2018Local Scholarship Application.
  2. Scholarships withan (*), require student’s to complete a separate application. Due dates may vary. Applications will be available in the guidance office on the Local Scholarship Bulletin Board.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER:

  1. Apply for ALL local scholarships for which you are eligible.
  2. Fill out the application COMPLETELY.
  3. Fill out the application NEATLY and WITHOUT ERROR. Use ink or type.
  4. Return the completed application by the deadline: April 17, 2018
  5. Return the completed application form to the Guidance Office - Mrs. Long or Mrs. Slocum.

THE YOUTH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPSare awarded to one boy and one girl from the class. Each scholarship is worth $200.00. Financial need is not the primary consideration. Most emphasis is on the applicant’s contributions to and consideration of his/her fellow students.

THE ETHEL AND CLARENCE J. BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is valued at approximately $500. 00.

The general criteria include:

THE BLANCHESTER EDUCATION ASSOCIATIONwill award at least one scholarship based on the following criteria:

  1. Participation in school activities
  2. Service to the community
  3. Financial need
  4. Probability of success in college

THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF BLANCHESTER SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded to a student with at least a 2.0 GPA for the 11th and 12th grades. The student must be enrolled in a program leading to an associate degree (two years) or a bachelor degree (four years). The value of the award may range up to $1000.00.

  1. 2.0 GPA in 11th and 12th grades
  2. Enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college program

THE BLANCHESTER PTO SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded this year for approximately $300.00. The criteria for selection include:

  1. Strong probability for success in college
  2. Financial need
  3. Parent participated in PTO/Academicats

S.A.T.H (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) will be awarded this one time award(non-renewable) of $500.00 scholarship based on the criteria:

  1. Any high school senior that has been identified with a disability.
  2. Applicant must be planning some post high school study or training (i.e. college, trade school, or short course).

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIPwill award a $1,000.00 scholarship this year, based on the following criteria:

1. Strong probability of success in college

2. School and community activities

ERNIE B. BLANKENSHIP ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

Must be a senior athlete at a Clinton County high school, at least a 2.75 GPA, lettered in a sport during senior year, must have taken ACT or SAT, and must have passed proficiency tests.

BLANCHESTER MUSIC BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIP

Must be a member of the high school band, wind ensemble, jazz band, or color guard (any combination)

for 4 years – 8 consecutive semesters, grades 9 – 12.

  1. Minimum 3.0 GPA
  2. Leadership
  3. Continue education at 2 or 4 year school (does not have to be music)
  4. Essay in letter form. To include the following;
  5. Your continuing education plans
  6. Why you should be considered for the scholarship
  7. How you plan to use the money, that is, how you benefit from scholarship

1. Financial need

2. Probability of success in college

THE 20TH CENTURY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded to one female graduate. It is a non-renewable

awardof $400.00. A student is not eligible if she has received a four year scholarship at the time ofgraduation. The criteria for selection are:

1. Rank in the upper ¼ of the class

2. Strong character, leadership, determination

3. Strong probability of success in college

CLINTON COUNTY CHAPTER OHIO RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Will offer a scholarship in the amount of $1,500.00 based on the following criteria:

1. Majoringin education (teaching)

2.Must be an Ohio College or University

FRED F. PENQUITE SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded to a senior in the amount of $1,000.00 (renewable) based on the following:

1. Financial Need

2. Must have 3.0 + GPA

3. Attend a 2 or 4 year college

THE HOMER J. AND MARY I. VILLARS MEMORIAL AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIPwill be awarded to a student attending a 2 or 4 year school. Preference will be given to students who plan to major in an agricultural related field.

THE BLANCHESTER ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARHIPis offered by the Alumni Association.

At least one scholarship of approximately $500.00 will be presented based on the following criteria:

  1. One parent MUST be a Blanchester High School graduate
  2. Probability of success in college
  3. High School scholarship, leadership, and service
  4. Must attend Alumni Banquet –Night before Commencement.

JR. HIGH HONOR SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP will offer 2 scholarships in the amount of $200.00

  1. Had to have been a Junior High Honor Society member.

IVA JEAN AND R. NORMAN CARNAHAN SCHOLARHIPwill offer a 4 year scholarship to

Wilmington College based on the following criteria: (the award may be as much as $10,000.00/year.

  1. Financial need, scholastic aptitude and community and schoolactivities
  2. Must be a graduating senior at Blanchester High School
  3. Have a letter of acceptance from Wilmington College
  4. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  5. Awards may not be given to relatives of employees ofBlanchester Local Schools, The First National Bank ofBlanchester,or Rose and Dobyns Law Office.

Leroy Williams, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

  1. A GPA of at least 2.75 in a college prep curriculum
  2. At least two extracurricular activities
  3. Financial need
  4. A photo and short interview required
  5. Student must demonstrate a strong probability of success in college

Carlton and Carolyn Binkley Educational Scholarship

  1. The applicant must be a senior at Blanchester High School who will attend collegestarting in the fall of the same year as graduation.
  2. The applicant must present proof of acceptance to an accredited college of teacher education.
  3. Financial need, scholastic aptitude, and a desire to become an educator will be considered when selecting the recipient of the Carlton and Carolyn Binkley Scholarship.
  4. The recipient will be selected by Carolyn and Carlton Binkley or their designees from a short list of students recommended by the school counselor of Blanchester High School.

Virginia Vandervoort/Wilmington Music Club will award scholarship in the amount of $500.00

  1. Must be going into the field of music or dance

Miriam E. Deck Memorial Scholarship_

  1. This scholarship is for Blanchester High school graduating seniors planning to pursue a degree in Elementary Education.
  2. $500.00 non-renewable scholarship for Elementary Education majors.
  3. GPA
  4. Must be able to demonstrate positive character attributes.
  5. Financial need may be considered.

  1. Blanchester Graduating Senior
  2. Business or related area of study
  3. Preference to a local college (Chatfield, Southern State, Wilmington), but open to a regional

SYDNEY’S PURPOSE SCHOLARSHIP FUND will be awarded this year for approximately $500.00. The criteria for selection include:

  1. Essay in letter form. To include why you feel you should be awarded this scholarship. Essays are to be turned in to guidance office by April 17th.
  2. Student must be attending Morehead State University or Shawnee State University.
