Montgomery College’s Unofficial Checklist for MTAP Students 2/4/13

  • You are encouraged to apply to MTAP as soon as you are accepted to Montgomery College, but you can apply at any time until your last semester here.
  • The minimum participation in MTAP is one semester before transfer.
  • If you plan to enroll at the University of Maryland, College Park in the fall semester and want to participate in MTAP the semester prior to transferring, you must meet the MTAP application deadline of Nov. 15. If you plan to enroll at Maryland in the spring and take advantage of MTAP, you must meet the MTAP deadline of June 1.

The Maryland Transfer Advantage Program has two major benefits:

1)Guaranteed Admission to UMCP after completion of 30 to 60 credits and/or

2)The ability to take one class at UM while a full-time student at Montgomery College

The MTAP Guarantee of Admission to UM: A student must meet all MTAP Qualifications for guaranteed admission [They must be able to say YES to every item]

  1. YES or No - I have completed or will complete a College-Level English and a College-Level Math (= MC’s EN 102 or 109 and MA 110 or higher, choice of math course depends on major) before or during the semester that I apply for transfer admission.
  2. YES or No - I have completed or will complete 30 to 60 transferable credits at Montgomery College or a combination of credits from another institution/AP/acceptable CLEP and Montgomery College courses ANDa minimum of 15 credits earned at MC after being accepted into the MTAP program. Check on the transferability of courses/see minimum acceptable AP/CLEP test scores here: UM Transfer Credit Center.
  3. YES or No -I will have an overall 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) from all institutions/colleges I have ever attended when I submit a final MC transcript to UM.Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended must be sent.
  4. YES or No - I have completed the Application for Transfer Admission by the Priority Deadline ofMarch 1 for Fall or August 1 for Spring.College transcript(s) must also arrived by the Priority Deadline date, and I have provided UM with my high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores if I have less than 30 credits showing on my transcript at the Priority Transfer Application Deadline.

About Limited Enrollment Programs- MTAP does not guarantee admission to Limited Enrollment Programs which have additional competitive requirements: Architecture; Business ; Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences and Policy-Biodiversity Conservation; Communication; Criminology Criminal Justice; Engineering; Government Politics; Journalism ; Landscape Architecture; Psychology

To Take a Course at UM While Enrolled at Montgomery College

1) Apply for MTAP; 2) Then earn 15 or more credits at Montgomery College; 3)Consider taking a class at UM if you need classes for a major which are not offered at MC; 4) You do NOT have to take a class at UM to be a part of the MTAP Program

MTAP's Next Enrollment Period isApril 1 through June 1, 2013 - you must apply on-line through the MTAP Site, using the on-line form available in April. Paper forms are no longer being accepted at MC Admissions Offices. Check the MTAP Website directly for the online form in April.
