Informatics Interview Clinical Project Overview

In this course you conduct your own research by interviewing three individuals who useinformatics in a healthcare setting. The goal of this project is to look at the different systems used in the various healthcare facilities and compare them.

Week 1: Interview Questions Rough Draft

Review the Interview Guidelines.

Develop interview questions.

Submit the interview questions for feedback.

Week 2: Interview Questions Final Draft

Review the Interview Guidelines.

Modify your interview questions based on facilitator feedback.

Week 3: Select Interview Candidates

Identify threeinterview candidates who use informatics in a healthcare setting. Candidates may include RN, FNP, CNO, and advanced practice nurses.

Choose candidates in different settings such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Retail clinics
  • Mobile clinics
  • Nursing homes
  • Rehabilitation centers
  • Insurance companies
  • Hospice
  • Assisted living
  • Telemedicine
  • Aeromedical evacuation
  • Occupational health

Schedule an interview with each candidate.

Weeks 4, 5, and 6: Informatics Interviews

Conduct theinformatics interviews using the questions developed in Week 1.

Week 7: Informatics Comparison

Develop a table comparing the different uses of informatics based on the data collected fromyour interviewswith professionals inyour selected healthcare settings.

Interview Guidelines

Develop at least 10 main questions related to informatics in a healthcare setting. Whendeveloping your interview questions consider how different institutions use informatic systems and what do they do with the information.Example questions include:

  • Which EHRsystems are being utilized?
  • What do you like best about the system?
  • What aspects make the system hard to use?
  • What improvements do you wish you could make to the system?
  • What kind of technology is in place to support patient education?
  • What do you like best about the system?
  • What aspects make the system hard to use?
  • What improvements do you wish you could make to the system?
  • Which decision support systems does the organization use?
  • What do you like best about the system?
  • What aspects make the system hard to use?
  • What improvements do you wish you could make to the system?
  • How is information used for research and evidence-based practice?

Note. Questions must be guided by the following patient safety and quality interventions suggested by the Institute of Medicine:

  • Patient-centered care
  • Teamwork
  • Collaboration
  • Evidence based practice
  • Quality improvement
  • Informatics
  • Patient safety
