AORGANISATIONAL AND POSITION OBJECTIVES

1Organisation

The West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (WGCMA) was established to facilitate ecologically sustainable development of our natural resource based industries, the protection of land and water resources and the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, within a framework of integrated catchment management.

2Position

This position will work closely with the Communications and Marketing Coordinator, Partnership and Engagement Team Leader and Project Managers to plan, design and coordinate project communications deliverables. Specifically, the position will coordinate the development and implementation of the communications components of the key State Environmental Contribution Levy 4 funded projects including: Our Catchments Our Communities Perry Project, Sustainable Irrigation Program, Flagship Waterways, Headwaters Willow Control Project and Corner Inlet Connections and the key National Landcare Program funded projects including; Gippsland Plains, Indigenous Partnerships, Sustainable Agriculture and Regional Landcare Facilitator.The communication components are likely to include: case studies, media releases, social media, photos, web based project profiles.

DKEY OUTPUT (ACCOUNTABILITY) AREAS

  1. Coordinate and implement the communication activities for key WGCMA projects, including case studies, media (social and traditional), photos and web pages
  • Provide project advice and support to WGCMA staff in the development and implementation of communication and engagement plans for WGCMA delivered projects.
  • Coordinate the developmentand implementation of the Annual Project Communications Plan to strategically link to the broader WGCMA’s communication efforts.
  • Supporting WGCMA staff in the delivery of project communication and engagement events/activities and associated media.
  • Improve internal project based communication efficiencies through a review and updating of current project based communication processes, including the training of relevant WGCMA staff.
  • Review and update project webpages on the WGCMA website and MERIT reporting
  1. Assist in the broader WGCMA communication-related activities
  • Ensure communications activities are kept up to date in WGCMA communications and marketing schedules
  • Assis in the updating and maintaining the WGCMA website.
  • Assist in the development of key WGCMA documents ie, Annual Report, CMA Annual Project Achievements brochure
  • Continually identify new communication and marketing opportunities.
  1. Assist in the coordination of the Community Engagement Framework
  • Provide Executive Support to the WGCMA Community Advisory Groups.
  • Coordinate the WGCMA Community Advisory Group renewal process, including, communications, promotion and recruitment.
  1. Project management, reporting and budgeting
  • Monitor and report on the progress of the project communications to Team Leaders and Unit Managers
  • Coordinate special projects that arise as part of the WGCMA’s communications and engagement responsibilities.
  • Provide project advice and support to WGCMA staff in the development and implementation of communication plans for WGCMA delivered projects.

ESPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge in the media or communications environment including the preparation of media releases, publications, advertising and providing high quality communications and marketing advice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in communication skills in particular the use of the internet for communication strategies eg: social media.
  • An understanding of, and experience in, communications, community engagement, public relations, marketing, and event management.
  • An understanding of community engagement processes and principles including experience in engagement activities and initiatives.
  • High level proficiency in the Microsoft office suite of programs.
  • Understanding of the role and operation of Catchment Management Authorities within Victoria.
  • General knowledge of natural resource management issues in the West Gippsland region, the Regional Catchment Strategy and relevant supporting regional plans.
  • Sound project management skills including the ability to manage budgets and organise workloads.
  • Understands the diversity of stakeholder groups within the West Gippsland region.

E3QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Community Engagement or related fields
  • Demonstrated experience working in the communications, marketing, public relations, community engagement or related fields

  • The role is responsible for determining day to day priorities and how to achieve end results

GACCOUNTABILITY AND EXTENT OF AUTHORITY

  • This role supports WGCMA staff and coordinates the WGCMA Annual Project Communications Plan.
  • Carry out duties in a responsible and professional manner, with a high level of independence and accountability.
  • This position is not required to direct others and is supervised by the WGCMA Communications and Marketing Coordinator.

IOTHER

1. General

  • This position is part time. The successful applicant will be engaged pursuant to the current WGCMA Enterprise Bargaining Agreement
  • Superannuation contributions will be made by WGCMA on the employee’s behalf in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee Legislation.
  • A three month probationary period applies to this position

2. Location

The role will be located in the WGCMA offices in either Traralgon or Leongatha. Travel between the two locations will be required.

A current Victorian Driver’s licence is essential to this position and must be produced, prior to commencement, for verification. Loss of licence may result in termination of this position, should it occur in the period of employment.

JKEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Mandatory

  • A degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Community Engagement or related fields.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in communication skills in particular the use of social media for marketing and communication
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of community engagement activities, initiatives/projects and public events.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including the production of major publications) and the ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external key stakeholders.
  • Well-developed time management, planning and priority setting skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and managing website content.
  • A sound understanding of Natural Resource Management.
