BITS FROM THE BOARD

  • Three Lake Madrone Water District Board position terms will expire in December. We would like to thank Dennis Nay, Scott Owens, and Jim Smith for their service over the last two years. Two of these board members have expressed an interest in getting off the board. If you are interested in serving on the board please contact Paul Minasian’s office and fill out an application before August 17th.
  • Lake Cleanout: Channel cleanout for the fall is planned for both Berry Creek and Galen Creek inlets. Removing sediment in these inlets creates a deep pool in which winter sediment can deposit and thereby prevent more sediment from moving to the heart of the lake. This technique is used to “trap” sediment coming into the lake during winter, as opposed to a much more expensive coffer dam setup. For more information contact a Board member.
  • Fire Safety: We are at high risk for wild land fire this time of year. Use extreme caution working around your residence: Work early in the day.

Leave any items that might ignite easily such as fabric cushions, wicker, brooms, or woven doormats, inside when you leave your cabin at the end of your stay.

  • Water Weeds/Algae/Swimmer’s Itch: A second and more recent treatment of the swimmers itch parasite and algae was applied in mid-July. Towel drying off immediately after getting out of the lake is the BEST means of preventing swimmer’s itch. Some people are more susceptible to its effects than others. Humans are not a host for the parasite so systemic problems do not occur as a result of this parasite.
  • Treatment for aquatic weeds is ongoing. Monitoring for the resurgence of weeds takes place throughout the year: Treatments are applied when needed.
  • Dumpster: A LARGE DUMPSTER WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITY USE ON LABOR DAY WEEDEND.
  • NO BEAR CLUB MEMBERS; Please do not place anything other than bagged household waste in the club dumpster OR NEXT TO IT!!!!! There is no mechanism for Ron or Bodil to deal with debris such as wooden crates, broken or discarded lawn furniture, deflated air mattresses or green waste. These items have been left “at” or “in” the dumpster and are not taken for disposal.
  • Landscape Committee:
  • The“History Wall” at Ski Beach. Robert Rogers is collecting funds for a stone retaining wall. As a means of raising funds a $100 donation is requested to have a brick inserted in the wall with a historical note of your choice. We encourage dates of your cabin history or a statement such is a philosophy of life. Please no “Memorials” to specific persons because we don’t want this project to be a mausoleum.
  • If you have any ideas for improving the common areas please contact Bobby Rogers.

OTHERBITS:

  • Galen Creek Homeowners Association: The association has been reactivated and seven new board members have been elected. The current plan is to meet three to four times per year as necessary. Annual membership dues have been set at $10 per lot for 2011. A notice will be sent to members.

Next Board Meeting: Saturday, August 20th, 9:30am. Ski Beach.

Galen Creek Association: Next meeting date not established yet.
