Provides essential knowledge of industry standard safety practices for industrial environments. This course covers electrical and workplace safety standards as set forth by the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Students earn an OSHA-30 General Industry Card through successful completion of this course.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

·  State the purpose of the OSHA

·  Describe the OSHA inspection process

·  Describe the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees under the OSH Act

·  Describe types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), appropriate usage, and OSHA requirements

·  Summarize guidelines for Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection in the workplace

·  Identify and communicate health and safety hazards

·  Explain general requirements for general safety standards

·  Explain effective ”Machine Guarding”

·  Describe accepted safety practices for Powered Industrial Vehicles

·  Describe accepted safety practices relating to welding, cutting, and brazing

·  List resources for identifying, categorizing, handling, and storing hazardous materials

·  Describe types of rigging equipment and proper usage for “Fall Protection”

·  Identify electrical hazards

·  Assess electrical risks

·  Select appropriate PPE for electrical hazards

·  Describe Lock Out / Tag Out procedures

·  Demonstrate how to establish electrically safe work conditions

·  Explain safe electrical work practices

·  Outline electrical safety-related maintenance requirements
