David Sorg Named 2014 HR Professional of the Year

Presented during Annual HR Florida Conference and Expo Orlando, FL

Annually, the HR Florida State Council recognizes a human resource leader who has advanced the profession in a significant way. The individuals nominated for this award serve as role models for the profession, setting the standard for others to follow, and applying their expertise to enhance organizational effectiveness.

David Sorg was named the 2014 HR Professional of the Year in the presence of more than 1,500 HR leaders at the State conference. The award was sponsored and presented by Jeff Mandel with Fisher & Phillips LLP. David is currently employed with The Mosaic Company and a member of the Mid-Florida SHRM chapter of Lakeland, FL (Polk County).

Sorg is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), and earned his MBA from the Krannert Graduate School of Business at Purdue University. As programs chair for the Mid-Florida SHRM, Sorg successfully located speakers and worked on ensuring Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) certification hours were approved and provided for each speaker.

Sorg is Senior Manager, Human Resources, Concentrate Operations at The Mosaic Company in Lithia, FL. In this role, he leads a team of more than 20 HR professionals and related nursing and payroll positions supporting approximately 2,000 employees driving results through standardization, costs management and process optimization within seven manufacturing facilities.

Sorg is involved with several community boards including CareerSource Polk, the regional workforce board focused on employment and training, where he has been an active board member for more than seven years, and is currently a member of the executive committee. He is also serves on the executive committee of the Business Alliance for Persons with Disabilities (BAPD), which educates the workforce and employers on the benefits and opportunities for hiring persons with disabilities. Both organizations are not-for-profit entities.

Lori Walsh with the Mid-Florida SHRM chapter nominated Sorg and said, “David deserves this recognition because he has been a superstar in every interaction I have had with him both personally and professionally. Members of the chapter look up to him and are very proud of his recognition here today."

Whether it’s Sorg’s commitment to his community and the human resource profession or his leadership at The Mosaic Company, he exhibits all of the qualities of the HR Professional of the Year. The HR Florida State Council is proud to honor David Sorg, SPHR, and GPHR with the HR Florida Professional of the Year award for 2014.
