This newsletter is designed to help keep you informed of school-wide and kindergarten activities that will be going on this trimester as well as the academic focuses that your children will be working on.

**Every Wednesday is an Early Release Day. School gets out at 10:19 for AM students and 1:10 for PM students.**

Kindergarten 3rd Trimester Essential Learnings

The following skills will be taught during third trimester and should be mastered by all students.

Language Arts

1)  Students will be able to identify how many syllables are in a given word.

2)  Students will be able to read all 50 kindergarten sight words.

3)  Students will be able to create their own rhyming word when given a base word.

4)  Students will be able to create new words by changing the beginning and ending sounds. (ex. bat turns into cat when the “b” changes to a “c”, cat turns into can when the “t” changes to an “n”)

5)  Students will be able to comprehend who, what, when, where and why questions in a given story.

math

1)  Students will be able to recognize, write and count numbers 1-30.

2)  Students will be able to identify the following plane shapes: square, rectangle, circle, diamond, octagon, oval, heart, and star. As well as the following solid shapes: cube, cylinder, sphere, and cone.

3)  Students will be able to add numbers to 10.

4)  Students will be able to subtract numbers to 10.

5)  Students will be able to tell time to the hour.

Over the past few years, California’s State Budget for our schools has greatly decreased, class sizes have increased, and our supply budgets are diminished. As a result, we would greatly appreciate your help in supplying your child with the materials listed below:
