MUSKEGON YACHT CLUB

MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT

July 2013

Membership with Muskegon Yacht Club is a privilege and with that privilege come certain responsibilities. The most important is respect for the safety and courteous treatment of our employees, members and guests while on MYC grounds and on the water. It is unacceptable for any member or guest to abuse any club employee, fellow member or guest verbally or otherwise. Any verbal or physical abuse will be reported to the Board of Directors for immediate disciplinary action, including suspension from the club and/or expulsion.

Members are responsible for their own conduct, and the conduct of their family and guests. Any member whose conduct, or whose family’s or guest’s conduct shall be deemed by the club staff or other members as improper/inappropriate, likely to endanger the welfare, safety, harmony, club reputation or other members’ experience may be reprimanded, fined, suspended or expelled from the club. The Board of Directors shall be the sole judge of what constitutes conduct requiring disciplinary action.

If an employee deems that a person is visibly intoxicated, the employee has the right and obligation to refuse service of alcoholic beverages to said individual. If that member or guest creates any situation that the employee deems belligerent, dangerous or disruptive to other patrons, those actions will be documented and reported to the Board of Directors for immediate rectification and disciplinary actions which may include suspension or expulsion from the club.

In addition to the privilege that comes with membership is the obligation that an MYC member assumes when representing the MYC or utilizing a MYC membership for reciprocal privileges with another club. Violations of the MYC Code of Conduct, while at other clubs, while visiting or competing, shall be considered violations of this policy.

The terms included in this “Member Code of Conduct” such as “disruptive,” “improper” and “inappropriate” are terms difficult to define. No hard and fast rule can satisfactorily cover all situations that may arise in behavior/conduct unbecoming of the privilege of membership with MYC. Nevertheless, most individuals have a keen awareness of right and wrong, and “fair play” and this, coupled with plain common sense, should deter one from conducting one’s self improperly. The Board of Directors may immediately suspend or terminate the membership of any member whose behavior is disruptive or disrespectful to staff and/or other members, or violates club by-laws, or any club rules/policies.
