“Flammable”. The performance-based video which features the band tearing through the track while encased in a glass box suspended from the ceiling of an abandoned warehouse as a ferocious quantity of fireworks explodes around them in dangerously close proximity. This 2D version of the video will soon by followed by a unique 3D virtual reality experience.
The release of “Flammable” continues at the height of the band’s storied career as their seventh studio Ellipsisrocketed to #1 in the UK, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland upon its release last year. Since then, Ellipsis has hit Gold status in the U.K. with the help of four A-listed tracks at Radio 1 with ‘Wolves of Winter’, ‘Animal Style’, ‘Howl’ and ‘Re-arrange’ – the latter of which achieved the rare distinction of being simultaneously playlisted at both Radio 1 and Radio 2.
Ellipsis was produced by RichCostey who was chosen on the strength of his work with Muse, My Chemical Romance, Sigur Ros, Fiona Apple, etc.Ellipsisfinds Biffy Clyrostreamlining their sound into a rush of melody and strident, stadium-conquering hooks in which its uplifting atmosphere contrasts with the darker themes of vocalist/guitarist SimonNeil’s lyrics. The media has responded in kind:
“Hard rock never goes out of style. On ELLIPSIS, Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro tap into that perpetual demand for souped –up riffage and more high-octane jams that hit the genres’ sweet spot.”– Entertainment Weekly
“Ellipsis is the group’s most concise record, so lean that you can practically see its veins popping out… This is one of Biffy Clyro’s best records yet.” **** – Q
“Right now, there’s absolutely no-one better.”– Kerrang!
“Biffy Clyro isn’t your traditional post-rock band. They don’t want to lose their sense of discovery and adventure. [On} ELLIPSIS, the band finally expands its sound beyond the organic.” --Paste
“These are the best and most far-out songs they’ve written.” **** – NME
Biffy Clyro followed Ellipsis with a remarkable run of huge scale, non-stop U.K. and European touring which set their riotous energy to a dazzling visual spectacle. They performed to almost 200,000 people over the course of a weekend when they played their biggest Scottish show to date at Glasgow’sBellahoustonPark in-between headline sets at the Reading and LeedsFestivals, and then ended the year with a triumphant UK and Ireland arena tour. Kerrang’s review of their London show at TheO2 described them as: “The band that pirouettes on the lines that divides alternative music from its mainstream equivalent better than anyone else.”
