A SHORT GUIDE to ANNUAL LEAVE,LEAVE AND PUBLIC Holidays

Annual Leave & Public Holidays

Annual Leave (AL) is calculated at 8% of hours actually worked. The leave year runs from 1stJanuary to 31stDecember. Leave cannot be as a rule iscarried over.

There are twoformsrelatedtoAL. One istheAnnual LeaveRequest Form. This is the formthatall staffmustcompletewhen requestingannual leave (AL),unpaid leave orPublicHolidays (PH) off.Thisavailableonlineat The other is the Annual Leave Card, this is a record of leave taken , or authorised to be taken and a guide to your remaining leave entitlement for the year.

Requesting Leave:Request the full period you want to take off and list eachdaythatyouwould normally work but wish to take off.

Record:Allthe Leadersthatthisaffects -wemayneedtoarrangecover.

If you wish to have a request for unpaid leave considered you must follow the same process. Unpaid leave is not automatically guaranteed, if suitable cover cannot be found it will be refused.

PublicHoliday’s (PH)

There a 9 PH a year. The only work that is carried out in a PH is essential personal care

  • If you are scheduled to work on a PH and the work is Social Inclusion then you will take this day off as a paid day off. The pay is at your normal basic rate
  • If you are scheduled to work and provide essential personal care you will be expected to work this and will be paid at time + time
  • If you are in this category and scheduled to work but want to request this off you must do so using your Leave Request at least 21 days in advance. If you do not hear from us 2 weeks before the PH is due please contact us.
  • If you are never scheduled to work on the day of the PH and you have worked a minimum of 40 hours in the previous 5 weeks (this minimum of 8 hours per week) you are entitled to 15th of your normal working week paid at basic rate.
  • Submit requests in good time. The minimum notice period is:

Annual Leave / Notice
1–2 days / 1 working week
3–5 days / 2 working weeks
6+ days / 4 working weeks
Public Holidays / 21 days - min

Donotassume that AL, unpaid leave or PHrequestsaregranteduntilyourreceive yourupdatedAnnual Leave Record Cardthathas been signedoff. Keep this card it is a record of the leave you have taken and gives you an estimation of your leave entitlement for the rest of the year
