REGISTRATION FORM EMDR and Children

This two-day workshop (12 CEUs) is for any clinician who has received the Basic Training in EMDR through an EMDRIA-Approved course. This workshop will focus on the advanced skills and play therapy techniques needed to utilize the EMDR protocol with children. Trauma, neglect, brain development and attachment will be discussed in relation to the AIP, the EMDR Protocol and case conceptualization. Participants will learn to adapt each phase of the protocol so that it is developmentally appropriate for the child’s age by using play therapy skills. Play therapy techniques which can be used throughout the EMDR process will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced. Special attention will be given to determining to NC and PC, child-oriented resource development and preparation, and play therapy techniques to make the EMDR process effective with children. This workshop will use didactic presentations, demonstrations, experiential exercises and case studies.Program Approval #15005-0_.

The Presenter:Roxanne Grobbel, JD, LCSW, RPT-S isa certified EMDR Trainer and consultant, who with her experience, is able to offer EMDRIA approved basic training, specialty workshops, and consultation to become certified or an approved consultant. As a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor, Roxanne has additional experience using EMDR and play therapy with children and can help you use EMDR and play therapy with even your youngest clients.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the effects of trauma, neglect, brain development and attachment on the child in relation to children’s play, the AIP, the EMDR Protocol and case conceptualization.
  2. Conceptualize the AIP Model with traumatized children and how children demonstrate traumatic events in the playroom.
  3. Conceptualize the differences and similarities of EMDR with child vs adults.
  4. Develop case conceptualization skills and treatment plans for children based onthe Adaptive Information Processing Model (AIP) and play therapy techniques.
  5. Effectively prepare children for EMDR therapy including safe place, affect regulation, RDI and selection of DAS method using play therapy techniques.
  6. Identify targets and assessment components of Phase 3 using developmentally appropriate play therapy skills and techniques.
  7. Use play therapy strategies to assist children in processing/ desensitizing past memories of trauma and neglect, triggers and the future desired outcome.
  8. Recognize when and how to use play techniques to complete a cognitive interweave with children.
  9. Understand the adaptations to the 8-phase protocol using play therapy techniques and how to implement them with children.

For Therapists who have not taken the EMDR Basic Training,take it with a Registered Play Therapist (Roxanne Grobbel) so you will learn to use it with play therapy skills for your youngest clients (EMDRIA Approved)EMDR is a comprehensive psychotherapy that can accelerate the treatment of your child clients suffering from a wide range of issues including PTSD, Traumas, Phobias, Grief/ Loss and issues related to disturbing events and present life conditions.With training and consultation, EMDR can be integrated into your play therapy practice with adults and children. This is thecomplete course, which consists of 20 hours of didactic and 20 hours of supervised practicum and includes 10 hours of consultation after completion of the course.
