Principles of Arts, A/V Technology & Communications

Prerequisite: Grades: 9-10Credit: One-half (state)

This introductory level course will foster a student’s creativity with the arts, computers and technology applications. Students will also build skills in both oral and written communication. Upon successful completion students will be ready to further explore their interests in this exciting cluster. Career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations will be studied in greater depth.

Fashion Design

Prerequisite: Grades 10-11Credit: One (state)

Technical knowledge and skills used in fashion and textile and apparel industries will be the primary focus of this laboratory course. Students will learn skills utilized in basic to advanced construction; the design process from concept to completion of a garment. Career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations will be studied in greater depth.

Advanced Fashion Design

Prerequisites: A. Grades 11-12 B. Successful completion of Fashion Design C. Teacher Approval Credit: Two (state)

This course develops advanced technical knowledge and skills used in the fashion and textile and apparel industries. Students will be required to develop an accessory collection or a clothing line from start to finish.

Audio/Video Production

Prerequisite: Grades 10-11Credit: One (state)

Lights.Camera.Action. It takes all kinds to produce a news cast. Students in this course will develop an understanding of the audio/video communications industry with a focus on pre-production, production, and post-production audio video activities.

Advanced Audio/Video Production

Prerequisites: A. Grades 11-12 B. Successful completion of Audio / Video Production. C. Teacher ApprovalCredit: Two (state)

In this capstone level course students will develop an advanced understanding of the audio/video communications industry with a focus on pre-production, production, and post-production activities. Students will be responsible for the campus based school news broadcasts from start to finish.

Graphic Design and Illustration

Prerequisite: Grades 10-11Credit: One (state)

This course develops an understanding of the graphic design and illustration industry with a focus on fundamental elements and principles of visual art and design. Career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations will be studied in greater depth.

Video Game Development

Prerequisite: Web Technologies and Digital Interactive Multimedia Credit: 1 (state)

Everything is a game and in the 21st Century learning to design the next great game will be important for that student who longs to create in a digital world. Prior knowledge of graphic design and web technologies is a must.

Advanced Graphic Design and Illustration

Prerequisites: A. Grades 11-12 B. Successful completion of Graphic Design and Illustration.Credit: Two (state)

This course will develop advanced technical knowledge and skills of the graphic design and illustration industry with a focus on advanced fundamental elements and principles of visual art and design.

Commercial Photography

Prerequisite: Graphic Design & IllustrationCredit: 1 (state)

Careers in commercial photography require skills that span all aspects of the industry from setting up a shot to delivering products in a competitive market. Students will be expected to develop an understanding of the commercial photography industry with a focus on creating quality photographs.

Advanced Commercial Photography

Prerequisite: Commercial PhotographyCredit: 2 (state)

After successful completion of the Commercial Photography course, students who want to explore further to improve their skills should sign up for Advanced CP. Students will be expected to develop an advanced technical understanding of the commercial photography industry with a focus on producing, promoting, and presenting professional quality photographs

Practicum in Audio Video Production

Prerequisite: Advanced Audio / Video ProductionCredit: 3 (state)

Careers in audio and video technology and film production span all aspects of the audio/video communications industry. Within this context, in addition to developing advanced technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications career cluster, students will be expected to develop an increasing understanding of the industry with a focus on applying pre-production, production, and post-production audio and video activities in a studio environment. This course may be implemented in an advanced audio, video, or animation format. Instruction may be delivered through lab-based classroom experiences or career preparation opportunities.

Practicum

Students who have successfully completed an Advanced level course in the Arts, A/V Technology and Communications area will have the opportunity to take a Practicum course.
