Nautilus International is a Trade Union and professional organisation representing some 25000 shipmasters, officers, cadets and other staff in the Merchant Navy and related professions.

Nautilus has an immediate position available for a suitably qualified dynamic individual with a proven record of undertaking organising and recruitment activities. Based in South Woodford, London and reporting directly to the National Secretary the successful applicant will assist in bringing together recruitment and organising initiatives and implementing action plans. Aspects of the work will require travel and periods away from home. A full driving licence is essential.

A proven self-starter you will need excellent interpersonal, organisation and communication skills and be fully committed to the Trade Union objectives and values. You will be competent in Microsoft office packages. The position offers an opportunity to progress and expand the role.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Assistant Organiser

Location:South Woodford , London

Line Manager:National Secretary Industrial South

Main Responsibility

Reporting to the National Secretary Industrial South with responsibility to the Senior National Secretary, the Assistant Organiser will assist in bringing together recruitment policies and implementing action plans, which turn ideas into reality.

The post holder will work within the existing Organising Team to help monitor and identify membership for the purpose of recruitment, and as appropriate, be involved in supporting direct recruitment campaigns in conjunction with the unions Industrial Officials and lay activists.

Specific Tasks/Duties

-assist in monitoring recruitment information and audit company based membership

-assist in identifying unorganised maritime professionals for recruitment

-assist in delivering campaigns appropriate to each recruitment situation

-assist in the recruitment of individuals and groups

-assist in organising recruitment teams and develop recruitment networks

-prepare and present promotional information to potential members

-assist in the co-ordination of Recruitment and Industrial activities

-assist as directed Industrial Organisers with individual case work

-undertake other duties as determine from time to time
