JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator / Date: October 23, 2015
The Volunteer and Education Department seeks an enthusiastic individual for Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator. This is a flexible, part-time position with ample opportunity for creative and professional program development and community outreach. 20-25 hours per week increasing to 30 hours per week May - August; Must be able to work weekends as needed. / Wage:$12.00/hour

Description:

To assist in developing and implementing a well-structured, results-orientated education and outreach plan designed to inform youth in the greater Gallatin Valley community about responsible pet ownership and compassionate care for all animals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Initiate contact and cultivate on-going relationships with local schools, youth groups, and other organizations that may benefit from Humane Education training.
  2. Oversee both on-and off-site events related to the Volunteer and Education department, such as classroom presentations, birthday parties, shelter tours, community events, etc.
  3. Research and implement new content and programs so as to continue the development of the Education program.
  4. Assist Education manager to coordinate and manage all aspects of Pet Pals Summer Day Camp, including registration, scheduling, hiring camp staff, and daily function of camp.
  5. Must be comfortable working with large and small groups consisting of youth and/or adults.
  6. Pursue continuing education in regards to current Humane Education practices.
  7. Responsible for maintaining all records and statistics for the Education program.
  8. Assist in maintaining Heart of the Valley social media sites and website in a professional manner.
  9. Report directly to and maintain open communication with Volunteer and Education Manager.

Qualifications:

  1. Working towards or have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  2. Commitment to the mission and success of the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter
  3. Pre-Employment background check.
  4. Knowledge of multiple teaching and coaching methods in order to adapt to different learning skills.
  5. Prior work with kids is required. Prior work with animals/animal welfare is preferred.
  6. Regular attendance and punctuality required.

Work-Related Skills and Abilities:

  1. Confident self-starter with the ability to initiate and complete tasks independently and as a team member.
  2. Creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
  3. Experience with Microsoft Office suite and similar computer programs.
  4. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  5. Positive attitude a must.
  6. Must stand, walk, and bend frequently, as well as be able to perform prolonged strenuous activity including lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
  7. Available to work occasional weekends and evenings.
