Media Release:
Australia Day Ball does the Eagle Rock
12 January 2016
The Territory is known for providing inspiration to many an artist, no less so than Ross Wilson, an Australian rock legend, who penned the lyrics to the classic Australian song Eagle Rockwhile working as a yards-man at the Darwin Hotel way back in early 1970.
Just a few years and many visits later, the Australia Day Council of the Northern Territory is proud to welcome Ross Wilson and Band to Darwin for the twenty-first Australia Day Ball on Saturday, 23 January at the Darwin Convention Centre.
“This will be a night to remember,” said Australia Day Council Executive Director Kiya Gill.
“I am sure Ross will inspire a few cool dance moves, his contribution to the Australian music industry reflects all the great things we celebrate on Australia Day, it will be an honour to have him perform at the Ball.”
Another inspirational Australian appearing at the Ball will be former Wallaby rugby international player, columnist, author and media identity, Peter FitzSimons.
Peter will deliver the keynote address touching on his interpretation of what it means to be Australian. As one of Australia’s biggest selling non-fiction authors, with just under 250,000 sales, his comments are certain to be enlightening and captivating.
“We hope that this year’s stellar line up of guests will encourage people to dress up and go out for the first big ball on the Darwin social calendar in 2016.
“Last year our guests were mesmerized by Jon English and 2014 NT Australian of the Year Shellie Morris who performed As WeWalk Together, a song they had only just completed especially for Australia Day.
“I am sure the 2016 event will be no less inspiring.
“Tickets to the Australia Day Ball are on sale until this Friday, 15 January, profits raised at the event support Australia Day activities in communities across the Territory, to ensure that the spirit of Australia Day is enjoyed by all Territorians,” Ms Gill said.
The Australia Day Council of the Northern Territory is grateful for the generous support itreceives from its sponsors, without them these events would not be possible, including principle sponsor of the 21st Black Tie Ball Sunbuild, North West Constructions, Shorelands, Sarah Lyn, Hardy Aviation and Commonwealth Bank.
