Event/Project: Alpha Phi Omega - 2016 National Convention
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Date: 12/27/16-12/30/16
Purpose of Event/Project: The National Convention gives brothers from our chapter the opportunity to go to Pittsburgh and meet brothers from all over the country, the Phillippines, and Canada. In addition to the friendships that can be formed here, we can bring tons of valuable information back to our own chapter. Our executive board will have the opportunity to meet with similar positions and learn of many effective techniques and ideas to better execute their responsibilities. Brothers can also get ideas for new events and have their love for APO deepen by seeing the love that so many people have for this organization and for helping others out of pure selflessness. All brothers will have a chance to greatly develop their leadership skills by participating in APO LEADS. LEADS is a leadership development program that consists of five components (Launch, Explore, Achieve, Discover, and Serve). Each component addresses a different aspect of leadership growth that will allow brothers to continue developing their leadership skills no matter their level of experience. As a whole, it is designed to equip brothers with the skills to enable them to be successful leaders and team members in any situation they encounter in college and beyond. LEADS is offered throughout the year, but each component is a separate class and is taught in different cities. The National Convention is the only place where four of the 5 LEADS courses are taught in the same place at the same time.

Purpose of Org: The Kentucky Law Journal was founded in 1881, and it is the oldest student-run organization at the University of Kentucky. The Journal is also the second-oldest student-run law review in the entire United States. Publication has been continuous since 1913, five years after the founding of the College of Law.
The Journal is committed to the legal and academic community as a forum for the publication of original scholarship and as an arena for vigorous debate about the law. Event/Project: Batson v. Kentucky at 30
Location: UK College of Law Courtroom
Date: 4-Nov-16
Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Purpose of Event/Project: Every year, the Kentucky Law Journal hosts an annual symposium in which the Journal brings in scholars from across the country to discuss a prominent legal issue. This year is the thirtieth anniversary of Batson v. Kentucky, a famous U.S. Supreme Court case that upholds protections to prevent discrimination against African-American jurors. This year we are not only looking at this case from a legal perspective but we are also looking at this case from a psychological and political science perspective. Stephen Bright will also be talking at our symposium, and he has been before the U.S. Supreme Court to argue cases similar to Batson v. Kentucky. Since this is a famous Kentucky case, we have the original attorney and Commonwealth's attorney doing a panel on the case as well. We are very excited about this event because it allows students and members of the community to learn about important legal issues.

Purpose of Org: The Flying Wildcats Booster Club serves as the fundraising unit for Air Force ROTC. Everyone who is a member of Air Force ROTC is a member of the booster club and vice versa. Air Force ROTC's mission is to train cadets to become leaders and officers for our country and military. However, as a government organization Air Force ROTC is not able to obtain funding or function as a student organization, so we do those things under the name "Flying Wildcats Booster Club."

Event/Project: Facilities Renovation
Location: Barker Hall
Date: Fall 2016
Purpose of Event/Project: Detachment 290 is currently undergoing a complete renovation of our cadet facilities located in the basement of Barker Hall. This is a vital part of cadet training and is severely outdated. With how old the building is, we had hoped we would receive some support from the university yet, they have decided not to provide us any assistance. Currently, the cadet facilities are falling apart and the floor is yellow from issues with the original foundation. Considering we work Safecats out of this building until almost 2a.m. each night, a hugely important service to safety and wellbeing of the campus community, it’s imperative that we get these funds. We want to be able work Safecats efficiently and with the current condition of the facility, we are hindered from effectively helping the student body. In addition, we are training students to lead our military, and with the facilities we currently have, we are struggling to provide a clean space for them to work, study and learn. Our goal is to update with new furnishings and flooring that can professionally reflect the university and the Air Force. This facility also aids our recruiting efforts. Cadets are highly active and involved members on campus and in the community. With our proposed renovations, we can expect to see more interest from potential cadets and ultimately, better service to the campus community.
