EWPCA/WPCS RULES
Exhibitors, owners and producers are expected to be familiar with
the rules of the Show and the WPCS.
A copy of WPCS Rules is held by Show Secretary.
Those below are to be read and agreed prior to entry.
.It is strongly recommended that competitors hold adequate third party insurance cover in respect of any accident caused by themselves, their family or helpers, their vehicles or animals when on the showground. All In-Hand exhibits must be registered with WPCS.
.EWPCA reserve the right to alter classes or judges without notice.
.EWPCA accept no responsibility for any loss or damage.
.The Judge’s decision is final in all cases.
.Manes and tails to be left unplaited with the exception of an optional single plait behind the ear. Welsh Part-Bred animals should preferably be plaited but this is optional.
.Animals, 3-years-old and under must not be body clipped for showing purposes. Long hair under the jawline and those protruding from the ears may be trimmed off leaving as natural a line as possible. The whiskers around the muzzle may be trimmed. Medals will not be awarded to clipped animals (3-years and under) and the Society can revoke an award if an animal is later found to have been clipped.
.Animals, 4-years-old or over, which have been clipped for winter activities can be shownand should not be penalised. Judges must take special note of this. Legs must not be clipped. Long hair under the jawline and those protruding from the ears may be trimmed off leaving as natural a line as possible. The whiskers around the muzzle may be trimmed. Fresh clipping for spring shows is not permissible.
.If the mane and tail are very thick, they can be discreetly thinned to show off the top line and the hindquarters. The tail should look natural and should not be “banged” (levelled off square). Artificial changes to the original markings of an animal as recorded on the Passport will not be allowed, nor the addition of false manes and tails.
.All stallions exhibited in stallion classes must be in possession of a Welsh Pony & Cob Society Licence of Correctness (or acknowledged alternative).
.In the interest of safety all colts and stallions, two-years-old or over must be suitably bitted and led by a handler who has reached the age of 14-years or over before January 1stof the current year. For colts/stallions the use of stallion show tack is optional.
.Youngstock may be shown in a white webbing or rope show halter, leather head collar or show bridle (excluding 2 and 3-year-old colts, see rule 10).
.Mares/geldings,4-years-old or over, may be shown in a white webbing or rope show halter, leather head collar, show bridle or riding bridle.
.If a pony/cob entered in a class is, in the opinion of the Judge, unsound, the Judge shall, at his/her discretion, require the exhibitor to withdraw the animal from that class or place it at the end of the line. The Judge’s decision in this matter is final.
.Where an unruly animal is likely to cause an accident, the Judge has the power to ask that the animal leaves the ring.
.No exhibitor should leave the ring unless permission has been obtained from the Judge via the Steward. The class ends when the Judge requests the class to be dismissed.
.Exhibitors must not show an animal under a Judge who has or has had a financial interest in that particular exhibit, stud fee excluded, (the exhibitor being the owner, lessee or person producing and/or showing the animal).
.A Judge may not adjudicate a pony which, to the Judge’s knowledge, was a pony bred, sold, leased or produced by the Judge or his immediate family or employer. If a Judge has reasonable grounds for belief that any part of this rule is being contravened he/she must ask the exhibitor to leave the ring and the exhibitor must withdraw.
.A rider, whip or handler must not compete in a class judged by a person for whom he/she has ridden, driven or produced in hand during the previous and current showing season.
.An exhibitor or producer must not enter any animal in a class under a Judge who has produced an animal for that exhibitor within the previous 12 months (12 months being from the last day the animal was shown/produced by that person).
.Substitutions and nomination of entries are not allowed.
.Substitution of handlers in Welsh classes is not permitted without the permission of the Judge.
.A courteous manner is expected at all times. Exhibitors should conduct themselves at all times in an orderly, polite manner as they represent the Welsh breeds and consequently the WPCS. Bad language is not tolerated under any circumstances whether to fellow exhibitors, owners, producers, judges, stewards or show officials. Bad behaviour brings the Society into disrepute.
.Judges should not be approached on the day of the show.
.It is the exhibitors’ responsibility to ensure they are in the ring at the right time and should not expect a show or its judges to hold up a class for them.
.Exhibitors should comply with the steward or judge’s request at all times.
.Exhibitors should be dressed neatly and circumspectly. A judge is empowered to ask an exhibitor to leave the ring if considered inappropriately dressed. Denim is not acceptable. Exhibitors must not wear clothing displaying any form of advertising.
.Exhibitors should ensure they are wearing the correct number for the animal they are showing.
.The welfare of the pony or cob is paramount and no lame, sick or overly fat animal should be brought to the show or into a class.
.All ridden ponies must be 4-years-old or over and registered in the Pure Bred section of their Mountain and Moorland Breed Society’s Stud Book or in the Part-Bred section of WPCS.
.Juniors who have not attained their 12thbirthday before 1stJanuary in the current year may not ride small breed stallions.
.Juniors who have not attained their 14thbirthday before 1stJanuary in the current year may not ride large breed stallions.
.Hard hats, to approved current BSI Standard, to be worn and correctly secured at all times when mounted. Spurs/dress spurs not to be worn.
.No shaft of any whip or cane shall exceed 75cms (30 inches). In Lead Rein classes plain or leather covered canes ONLY may be used.
.In First Ridden classes ponies must not be cantered except in their individual show.
.Anyone causing a disturbance, of any kind, will be asked to leave the showground, forfeiting all entry fees.
.Objections must be made in writing within 15 minutes of the finish of the class accompanied by a deposit of £15.00.
