Auld Lang Syne

Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should old acquaintance be forgot, and old lang syne?

Sneakers
(Tune: "Auld Lang Syne")

Should old worn sneakers be thrown out;
Or stink upon a shelf?
Should holey, moldy, gym socks walk
To the washer by themselves?
My smelly shoes, so torn and rank;
How comf'table to me!
My gym socks match them perfectly;
Let's my piggies wiggle free!

Bug Juice
(Tune: Auld Lang Syne")

A slimy, slip'ry, slith'rin' bug
Went creeping up mom's mug.
It swam and floated like a boat
In one gulp down mother's throat.
She choked and coughed and turned bright blue-
Oh, what a lovely hue!
She screamed and raised an awful stink-
Now she'll look before she drinks!

Mules/We're Here
(Tune: "Auld Lang Syne")

On mules we find 2 legs behind, and 2 we find before.
We stand behind, before we find, what the 2 behind be for.
When we're behind the 2 behind, we find what they be for.
So stand before the 2 behind, behind the 2 before.

We're here because we're here, because we're here.
Because we're here.
We're here because we're here, because we're here.
Because we're here.

Santa Clara County Council -- 30 -- 2009 Pow Wow & University of Scouting

What Is It?

(Tune: Auld Lang Syne)

1 found it in an old tree stump,

I found it in a tree.

I put it in my right pocket,

So no one else could see.

I left it there all through the night

It stayed there through the night.

I took it out the next day,

And showed it to my mom.

She couldn't understand just why

I had it in my pants.

I told her that I had it there,

So no one else could see.

She made me put it back outside.

It didn't belong inside.

It lives inside the old tree stump

With other snakes alike.

Competition Song
(Tune: "When The Saints Go Marching In")

Oh, when the Pack begins to sing;
Oh, when the Pack begins to sing;
Sometimes, I just can't tell who's the loudest;
When the Pack begins to sing!

(Each Den in turn:)
Oh, when Den______begins to sing;
Oh, when Den______begins to sing;
We're gonna try to sing out the loudest;
When Den______begins to sing!

Oh, when the parents begin to sing;-etc.
Oh, when the Pack sings all together; etc.
That's when we always sing the PROUDEST;
When the Pack sings all together!

Clementine

In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine, dwelt a miner, 49er, and his daughter, Clementine.
Chorus- Oh my darling, Oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine! Thou art lost and gone forever, dreadful story Clementine.
Light she was, and like a fairy, and her shoes were number 9. Herring boxes without topses, sandals were for Clementine.
Chorus
Drove she duckling to the water, every morning just at nine, hit her foot against a splinter, fell into the foaming brine.
Chorus
Saw her lips above the water, blowing bubbles mighty fine. But alas! I was no swimmer, So I lost my Clementine.
Chorus
Now you scouts hear the moral, from this little tale of mine. Artificial respiration could have saved poor Clementine.
Chorus

Scout Oath and Law
(Tune: "Clementine")

On my honor,
I will do my best
To do my duty to,
G-od a-and my-y country,
And to o-bey the Scout Law.

To help other people a-at
Al-ll times; to keep myself
Physic'lly strong, mentally awake,
A-and mor-or-raly straight.

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful,
Friendly, courteous, and kind,
Obedient, cheerful, thrifty, bra-ave,
Clean and reverent all the time.
(Note: I put this to lyrics as a teaching method to help our 2nd year Webelos learn the Scout Oath and Law in the pursuit of the Arrow Of Light. Music can be a great teaching tool-how many of you first learned your alphabet by singing "A,B,C,D,"...?)

Trusty Tommy
(Tune: "Yankee Doodle")

Trusty Tommy was a Scout, LOYAL to his mother,
HELPFUL to the folks about, and FRIENDLY to his brother.
COURTEOUS to the girls he knew, KIND to his rabbit,
OBEDIENT to his father too, and CHEERFUL in his habits.
THRIFTY saving for a need, BRAVE, but not a faker.
CLEAN in thought and word and deed, and REVERENT to his Maker.

Something In My Pocket

(Tune: Yankee Doodle)

I have something in my pocket

That I found behind a log

My leader said to let it loose

But I want to keep my frog

It’s cool and green and shiny

And it squiggles in my hand

I also have a wooly worm

And a pocket full of sand

Kookaburra

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree
Merry, merry, king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra, Laugh, Kookaburra
Gay your life must be! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree
Eating all the gumdrops he can see
Stop Kookaburra, stop, Kookaburra
Save some of them for me! Yum, yum, yum!

Den Song
(Tune: "Reuben, Reuben")

Den_____, Den_____, we will follow
Our Akela all the way.
First we work on our advancements;
Then, it will be time to play.

Do Your Ears Hang Low

Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot? Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder, like a continental soldier?
Do your ears hang lo-o-ow?

Ode To Touch-Me-Nots
(Tune: "Jingle Bells")

Running thru the fields, along the paths that wind
Nature's glory all around, mixed with poison ivy vines
Scratching's not my thing, I've only got one hope
To find that magic, wonder plant, and help my body cope!

Chorus: Oh, touch-me-nots, touch-me-nots; soothe my itchy skin.
Nature's way of making up for things that I got in.
Touch-me-nots, touch-me-nots, lovely orange flowers.
Keeps poison ivy's rash at bay, if used within an hour!

Crushing stems and leaves, wipe on that wonder salve.
Prevent that vine from ruining the smooth skin that I have!
I shoulda watched my steps, and looked before I jumped
How nice it is to know there is a way to stop the bumps!
Chorus

Worms and spiders; worms and spiders;
Creep and crawl; creep and crawl.
Keep 'em in my pockets; keep 'em in my pockets.

(Motions to this song: Worms-palms together, wiggle hands and arms
Spiders-link thumbs together and wiggle other 8 fingers
Creep-palms together, slide one arm forward
Crawl-push down one palm, then the other
Keep 'em in my pockest-put hands one at a time in pockets
Squashed them all-pull hands out one at a time, shaking them like trying to shake goo off)

Cub Scouting We Will Go (tune: Jingle Bells)

Cub Scouting we will go

To a den where we can play;

Sunshine, rain or snow,

Happy on our way.

As buddies we will greet,

Faces gleaming bright;

What fun it is when we can meet,

And do the things we like!

I've Got That Scouting Spirit

I've got that Scouting spirit up in my head,
up in my head, up in my head.
I've got that Scouting spirit up in my head,
up in my head to stay.
2. I've got that Scouting spirit deep in my heart.
3. I've got that Scouting spirit down in my feet.
4. I've got that Scouting spirit all over me.
