GOVERNOR

Dear

Student is here with us in the detained unit at Mountain View Youth Development Center. He/She is a Special Education student.

In support of LD 1306, a cooperative agreement between the Department of Corrections and the Department of Education has been established. Section III of the Cooperative Agreement states the following:

The SAU is notified of the need to convene an IEP meeting to review and amend as necessary the student’s IEP if it has been determined by the facility that an identified special education student will be held in the facility for more than 10 school days.

When a student is going to be detained for more than a ten day period a change of placement IEP meeting is to be held by the SAU. The IEP meeting notices will come from the school districts for members, including M.V.Y.D.C. detention staff, to attend the meeting. These meetings will document that a change in placement has occurred due to court detentions and that the detained student has the most recent IEP.

Student will be here in the unit for more than ten days, please contact ______to set up an IEP meeting. The Special Education teacher within the unit and the student will be available to participate via teleconference.

______will contact JCCO with the meeting date and time, so he/she can attend the meeting either at the sending school or in the detention unit.

Please let me know a date that would be good for you, and a phone number that our teacher can call for the teleconference. The best time for our teachers to do a teleconference is 8:00 a.m. any morning of the week.

Sincerely,

Coordinator, Project IMPACT
