Preschool

Playgroup –Children and a parent have the opportunity to enjoy unstructured playtime. As there is no instructor, parents will be responsible for the safety of their children, as well as picking up toys, food, etc., at the end of the playgroup. Begins:Sept. 16-Dec. 23.

Tiny Tigers - Location: American Cadre KarateThis program is designed to teach the basic fundamentals of martial arts, as well as life skills. We stress the importance of respect, listening skills, strengthening, social skills, stranger danger, and self confidence. Begins: Sept. 24.

Pre-School Yoga-Yoga is a fun innovative form of exercise which comes very natural to children.During this class children will learn and express themselves in a natural playful way through yoga poses, breathing techniques, games, and music. Self-esteem will grow and spirits will soar. Mats provided by instructor.
Children must be potty trained.Begins Sept. 22.

UK Petite Soccer-This program includes both physical and physiological training for players. All "games" are based on having fun and will teach players how to play soccer and interact with others. The curriculum is based around the philosophy of maximizing the enjoyment of soccer andgetting a soccer ball into a child's life.Begins Sept. 15.

School Age

Kidz Sports Klub– Did your child like the indoor games played during the Summer Playground Program? Then this is the program for them, to come out and play just for the fun of it.Even if your child did not attend the Summer Playground Program we are sure that they will have fun playing games that will include wamp ball, relay races, floor hockey, soccer and more.Each class will end with team building games that will encourage team building strategies, such as minute it to win it and other fun games.Begins Sept. 23.

Archery- Location: Reed Field Area-On Site Archery is back! You will learn the skills and techniques of archery and develop focus, patience and camaraderie. We will take you through a step by step shooting process based on the techniques of the USA archery head coach Kisik Lee. You will learn and improve your shooting form and technique. No equipment, no problem. We supply bows, arrows, and everything else needed for you to participate. Begins Sept. 18.

Acting with Rob-This program will introduce and enhance primary acting skills in a fun small class environment. Participants will utilize teamwork andclose one on one attention via games, exercises, and group activities. By the end of the course, students will participate in an informal performance for invited parents and guests to apply their skills learned. No previous experience required.Begins Sept. 17.

10 Week Program

Ages:7-13Thursdays 4:30-6:00 or 6:00-7:30

Science Club–Make lava or a catapult of marshmallows or maybe some flubber to bounce on the wall. This fun kidsscience club is for curious and creative children. Every week a project will be conducted that is a hands on experience, and can also be taken home. Program fee includes all materials for experiments.

Instructional Lacrosse- Location:Opachinski Benelli FieldLearn the basics of lacrosse. This includes learning skills such as, cradling, scooping, catching, and passing. The equipment needed for this program is a stick, mouth piece, and lacrosse gloves (optional for boys only). Begins: Sept. 19.

Backyard Flag Football – Location: Gray’s Beach Park

This NFL Flag Football program is “Just for the Fun of it”

Space is limited - register today!
Registration open until program is full, or no later than Sept. 5th, whichever comes first.

This is due to planning purposes; creating teams, assigning times and ordering team shirts.
Your child can participate in this fun program sponsored in part by the NFL league. 20 minute practice and then 40 minute games will be held once a week on Saturday's at Gray's Beach Park. Registration fee includes an NFL flag football jersey, which will be used as their uniform.
You must register and make payment on our website. You will also need toregister on the NFL site.If you do not register on the NFL page you will NOTbe completely registered and your child will not be added to a team. This NFL Player waiver is mandatory and the link can be found on the KingstonRec website on the Backyard Flag Football Activity page.Begins Sept. 19.

Movement to Music-Progressive movement skills which will include floor routinesthat will also incorporate dance moves. This is a great program for boys and girls.Girls should wear footless tights and a leotard and boy’s should wear Tshirt, sweat pants, and bare feet. The conclusion of the program will be a performance at the Annual Dance recital on May 14. This is a year-long program and costumes will also be provided.Begins : Sept. 18-May.

Wrestling – Youth Fundamentals - This is an introductory program that will cover the basic fundamentals of wrestling, proper stance, rules, and movements that will help prepare kids for the sport of wrestling.Begins : Sept. 24.

Starcreations Theater –Starcreations Theater presents the musical theater Spring workshop "Frozen". This workshop will instruct students on theater, music, and dance and will culminate in a live performance at the end of the program.Through music and acting development, this program helps buildchildren’s self-esteem and explore their creativity. Great roles for both maleand female participants - no prior theater experience necessary.Begins:Sept. 15.

Tennis-Fall Outside- Location: Reed Tennis Courts-Bring a smile and come to have fun. Instrumental drills, and fun games. Please wear white bottomed sneakers. Children must bring their own racquet, if you do not have one contact the Recreation Department and the instructor may be able to provide one for your child.
Please have your child bring a water bottle and apply sunscreen if necessary.

Getting Gritty-This program is designed to help kids feel empowered, motivated, and successful in working through things that are difficult, overwhelming and stressful.They will learn how to reduce stress in the moment and how to recognize when they are starting to feel overwhelmed. They will learn tools for coping skills such as breathing exercises and positive talk. Each child will receive a stress tool kit, which includes information, tangible coping skills and information to share with parents/guardians.

This is a one day program, October 1st.

Tennis 101–Inside- Location: Kingsbury Club, Kingston– Children will learn the lifelong sport of tennis in a fun, positive environment using age appropriate size equipment and balls. The program will teach and reinforce proper stroke technique, basic rallying skills and introductory play.

Joy of Music-Weekly 30 minute small grouplessons Monday- Thursday between 2:40 and 8:00pm. When registering, list the instrument: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, snare drum or keyboard. All students must have an instrument for practice. Please e-mail Mrs. Johnson with 3 choices of availability for day and time so a schedule can be created.(Please note that right after school times typically go to advanced students.) Kids will enjoy game room activities, and partying down to DJ music.
After you purchase online, please print the paperinvoice. The invoice is your ticket.An invoice on yourphone willnot be acceptable at this time. If you do not have access to a printer, you may come into the office and we can print one for you.Your child will need to bring their invoice with them the night of the party - this will be your child's entrance to the party.
Parents are required to chaperone.Twenty chaperones are required for each party. If there are not enough chaperones by the Wednesday before the party, the party could be cancelled. This is necessary due to the requirement to have a certain number of adults per number of children. Therefore, when you register for this event you will be entered in to a lottery. Parents will be picked from this lottery to chaperone. A CORI and copy of driver’s license is required.
If you would like to chaperone, please call or stop by the office. All parents are welcome to chaperone at any time.
Grades: 5 and 6 only.

Irish Step Dance-Irish Step Dance is not only fun, but also good exercise. It develops coordination and agility and Irish dancers often excel in sports that require quick footwork such as soccer, lacrosse, and track. Irish Step develops listening skills and increases attention span, and also builds self -esteem. Irish Step is a progressive dance style and each session builds on what was taught in the priorsession.

Adult Programs

Yogilates -Yogilatesis a complete and comprehensive fusion of Yoga and Pilates strengthening exercises, together in a safe and effective results-oriented class. It is excellent for developing muscular definition and overall fitness. It is safe for all levels of fitness, however you should always check with your doctor before starting any exercise program. Please inform instructor of any injuries or restrictions prior to class. Bring your own mat, water, towel and any props you may have (ex: Yoga block or strap).

Adult Programs continued:

Pickleball -Pickleballis a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. A paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game. This is the fastest growing sport in America.
The Fall Session will be held 3 times a week through November 13th from 9:30 - 11:30am at the Gray's Beach Park Tennis Court. If inclement weather during this time, will be played inside at the Reed Building on Monday's and Friday's only (not available inside on Wednesday's).
After November 13th remainder of the Fall session will be held inside on Monday's, and Friday's at the Reed Community Building from 9:30 - 11:30am. All levels are welcome.
Begins: Sept. 14-Dec. 21.

Kayak-Fall Foliage Tour & Hike-Join us for a foliage tour that includes a relaxing paddle on the quiet waters of Billington Sea and a hike along the trails of the nearby Morton Park or the Crowley Preserve. You get all this while enjoying the spectacular fall colors that will make you feel like you are far away in Maine. This is a great tour for families. Pick a day. Sat. Oct. 10th or 17th, or Sunday Oct. 11th, or Oct. 18th.

HEARTSAVER CPR AED- Location: Kingston Public Library

This is an American Heart Association basic certification course. Participants will be trained in CPR, AED (defibrillator) and choking emergencies, for all age victims. This course is NOT appropriate for nurses or healthcare professionals.

Halloween Costume Party-

Luminary Holiday Entertainment-Come listen to music performances by great family entertainers and other artistic groups. Get warm with cider and hot chocolate, and help us decorate the giving tree by bringing hats, scarves, mittens, or gloves to hang on the tree. Items will be donated to Pilgrims Hope, a local family shelter. Kids can enjoy various craft stations in the lower hall at 6:30pm.

MassPark Pass-Reserve this park pass to visit state parks in Massachusetts. This park pass will allow the bearer free parking for one vehicle in over 50 facilities.You must come into the recreation office to pick up pass and sign it out.This Pass must be returned within two days of borrowing.

On Your Toes with Tracey-Registrations are now being accepted for On Your Toes with Tracey’s dance classes for the September 2015 – May 2016 season. Each combination class includes ballet, tap, & jazz. Each class is one hour and meets once a week. There is a Recital at the end of the year, therefore the year-long commitment is important due to purchasing costumes as well as for Tracey to coordinate the dance routines for the recital.If children drop out during the year it affects other children in the class, as several of the dances can be coordinated with partners. Classes will be held on Mondays,or Wednesdays beginning September 14, 2015.There is a registration fee of $10. For planning purposes please register as soon as possible.
