I am very excited to announce the 2010 Red Tiger Cup to be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 here in Philadelphia at Archbishop Ryan High School. This is our most prestigious event as over 500 competitors from all over the USA & neighboring countries assemble to compete in the largest ITF-Style championship of the year!
The 1st Red Tiger Cup was hosted in 1987 (Originally named the USTC Tournament of Champions) by Sbn T. Warren & provided our students with an Inter-dojang Tournament that enabled them to test their skills against other opponents. What had begun as a small local event has emerged into one of the most competitive & well-organized events in the USA.
Frequently asked Questions
1. Why should my child/I compete?
As part of the testing requirements for the USTC, students are required to participate in at least 2 tournaments per year to be eligible to test for their Black Belts. One of these tournaments MUST be the Red Tiger Cup. This experience will allow them to test their skills against students of similar age, rank, weight & sex. Those that finish in the top 3 places will receive beautiful medals/trophies & take with them a memorable experience. Nevertheless, winning is not the sole purpose of this competition. We hope that the competitors take valuable experience with them from the mental & physical challenges of competing. This will allow them to develop into more well rounded martial artists. In the unfortunate case that they are unable to attend due to a prior commitment, they will have to travel to New York or Conn. to fulfill their requirement.
2. What makes the RED TIGER CUP different?
There are various reasons that the RTT CUP is different than other tournaments. Here are some of the main reasons:
· Proximity – Closest tournament of the year. Other tournaments are held in other states/countries and are much more costly & time consuming. The RTT Cup is in your own backyard.
· Fairness – This event is hosted by the USTC-Red Tiger & great care is taken to insure that ALL competitors, regardless of dojang, are provided with the best & fairest Judging.
· Organization – This is the most important difference between the RED TIGER CUP & other events. First, the event is divided into two-days to accommodate the large number of competitors. Second, 6-8 matted rings are provided for the safety of the competitors. Third, divisions are broken down by age, weight, rank & sex, so as to allow the best possible experience & match-ups for competitors. Most of our divisions are divided with only one year in between (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, etc) & we even have divisions for those as young as four & for Seniors over 40. Lastly, time slots (9-11 am, 11 am – 1pm & 1 – 3 pm) are assigned so that competitors know in advance when & where they are scheduled to compete. These will be posted on the website, in the dojangs & at the tournament site. Most events today have not developed this time slot system & competitors & their families have to arrive early in the morning & wait until they are called which at times could be many hours later. This is not the case at the RTT CUP!
· Medals/Trophies – Beautiful 1st, 2nd & two 3rd place medals/trophies are awarded to the top 4 competitors. In addition, 4th place medallions/trophies are presented to all competitors 12 & under, so everyone leaves a winner! In addition, all participants will receive a “Certificate of Participation” stating that they have attended the 2010 RTT CUP that they will include in their black belt testing binder.
· Host – This is “Our” event & we take great pride in it. Your support & participation have not only made this one of the largest but most organized events in the USA. We strive to make our event bigger & better than last year & count on your support to do so.

RULES:
Order of first match will be decided by a coin toss. The winner will select whether to “Send First” or Defer so that the other team sends first. After that, the order will alternate. A win will result in two points; a draw in one point. The first team to reach 6 points advances to the next round.
