ANM – AUXILIARY NURSE MIDWIFE
For Darbhanga and/or Biraul (Darbhanga District, BIHAR)

JOB LOCATION:Based in Darbhanga or in Biraul (BIHAR). In the event of an emergency available to work in other States within India and/or the region.
STARTING DATE:Approximately by15TH FEBRUARY, 2014
MAIN OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
To ensure correct nutritional support and follow up of the patients
FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINES:Hierarchically and functionally accountable to the Nurse Supervisor.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Activities
- To explain the care takers about the nutritional protocol, the new diet for babies, duration of treatment and the best care to be provided to the patients.
- To assist Nurses and Doctors in the care and treatment of the people attending the health center
- Encourage mothers to feed their children and motivate breast feeding mothers to breast feed
- Be available for nutritional screening, drug dispensary, dressings, injections with good nursing techniques as needed
- Assure a proper triage system, prioritizing critical patients according to the guidelines.
- Be able to monitor the vaccination status of the children, referring them if needed, or administrating vaccines according to the Indian Vaccination Schedule.
- Monitor and record the appropriate feeding of the children
- Perform rapid laboratory test when needed.
- To ensure that the patients are complying with the minimum hygiene measures, especially before meals
- To be able to keep clear and accurate records.
- Collaborate with the medical team in the care of the patients and complete all relevant documentation
- Accompany patients for investigations or referral in the MSF provided transport when needed
- To maintain personal contact with patients and take note of their complaints, report if necessary and ensure confidentiality
- To carryout health education to patients and their attendants
- Create and engage in interactive games to help promote psychosocial development of patients especially paediatric patients
- To keep patients comfortable and ensure a healthy environment in the health facility
- To assist, if needed, in emergency interventions arising in the region showing flexibility, adaptability and commitment
- Take vital signs (temperature, pulse and breath rate) and anthropometric measurement (weight, height and MUAC) if needed
- To be able to take vital signs (temperature, pulse, and breath rate).
- Keep clear and accurate records.
- Participate in, and when required facilitate, medical/nursing training sessions, both internally and externally
- To respect and promote the medical ethics
- Respects the working time
- Work according to roster, which includes nights and weekend shifts.
Managing written/oral handovers
- Report to the GNM any changes in prescription or patients to be followed up, to ensure a proper handover report.
- Ensuring an oral handover at every team changeover, drawing attention to any notable events during the shift
- Participating in departmental meetings actively and to discuss impacting day to day issues to ensure facilitation of the right decisions.
Managing medicines and departmental material
- Carrying out stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover
- Noting the daily consummation and placing an order if necessary
- Pharmacy stock management: be able to produce weekly inventories, avoid shortage, drug orders and manage of expired drugs.
- Informing the departmental supervisor of the various needs
Producing statistics
- Filling out registers and health files correctly
- Participating in data collection with the departmental manager
Others
- To perform any other tasks as required by your Supervisor
- To maintain a flexible approach and responds to the needs of the project even if outside of this job description.
REQUIRED WORKING DAYS:
The nature of the work requires presence on Sundays and Public Holidays as per duty roster. Sundays are considered as a weekday. Special arrangement are only considered for official Public Holidays (as per Internal Rules and Regulations
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Minimum Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife (ANM) from a Nursing institution recognized by the Nursing Council of India, at least 12 months training
Work experience
- Minimum1 years of work experience in a field, PHC, or secondary heath care centre
Specific skills:
- Must be proficient and competent in basic medical procedures including IV cannulation, taking and recording Vital signs, administering IV & IM injections etc.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload & taking initiative when appropriate
- Good verbal and written communication skills essentially in English and Hindi, familiarity with local dialects with be an added advantage
- Able to integrate into a multi-cultural team and cooperate with co-workers
- Able to work independently &as well as part of a team
- Ability to cope with stress
- Demonstrates flexibility in taking up tasks outside of regular job responsibilities as required
- Willingness and ability to live and work in a rural setting
- Good Punctuality and ability to act with responsibility
Desirable skills
- Good knowledge of MoH policies and general system of health management
- Understanding of MS Office especially Word, Excel & PowerPoint
OFFERS FOR THE POSITION:
Gross Salary is Rupees 16,173 per month, in 13 monthly installments. NOT NEGOTIABLE
P.F. and gratuity are applicable as per law.
