Book Review Final Project

Psychology

This project is not a mere book report in which you only write out what the author said. This project requires that you analyze the book. Your paper needs to discuss several things about your book, as well as connect it to Psychology class. ***You must cite your textbook as well as the book you are reading.

Paper Content Requirements (100 points total)

Your review needs to answer the following questions:

1.  A brief summary of the book (20 total)

Just discuss what happened in your book. Answer the basic who, what, where, how, why questions.

2.  The main thesis of the book (15 total)

What is the main point of the book? What argument is the author presenting?

3.  Discuss the connections between what you have learned in Psychology this semester and your book. (40 total)

What theories and theorists have been presented and supported in the book? What disorders have been discussed? Has treatment been discussed? Where did you find it in your book? (hint...page #)

4.  Your opinion of the book (25 total)

Believe it or not, this is a very important portion of the book review. Take it seriously. Would you recommend this book to another person? Would some people like it more than others would? Why? Do not just say “no, I hated it” or yes, I loved it.” What did you really think of the book? Why? Look at the above things in your paper to help you decide. Ask yourself questions such as: Did the author support his thesis thoroughly? Were his sources reliable? Did he/she have a good style of writing? Did the book leave you wanting to know more? Many other questions should come to you as you put this paper together. “It was boring” is NOT an acceptable opinion.
