The new ASCSU website needs your $0.02! Please email marketing if anything is not up to date or just outright wrong.
The screen in the office is working! All those interested in putting something up please email me.
I need 20-50 word descriptions of everyone’s job within ASCSU in plain, friendly, and easy to read terms. Please send them ASAP!
Remember that you are primarily a student. Study hard!
Dates to Remember
Directors’ reports due every Monday at noon.
Academics –Ryan Morrison
I have been meeting with different people to discover the challenges associated with changing the finals schedule. There a few policies set at different levels (i.e. CSU, BOG, or state law) that have ultimately led the administration to devise the current schedule. Such policies which need to be considered include how many weeks the semester needs to be, how many hours of class time students need to be in class, how long testing must be, and a general tradition of the university since 7am finals have been used for 16 years.
This week I will begin researching into how students best test and determine whether or not 7am finals are in fact detrimental to students. I will be looking for peer reviewed studies. Any psych majors willing to help?
I am also going to look into how other universities organize their finals week. Anyone go to another school have any insight? Say a Grad student?
Changes I am looking into include:
- Identifying classes who do not need two hours of testing time and shorten them by one hour. (Problem is that that hour would need to be dispersed throughout the semester prior to finals week).
- Moving commencement to Saturday and Sunday instead of beginning on Friday. (Problem is Sunday is a spiritual day for some. Could anyone let me know how commencement on Sunday would affect them?)
- Starting finals on Saturday or Sunday. Not one of my favorite ideas as it would cut in on the weekend to study, but there would be not 7am finals.

RamRide –Eric Berlinberg
General:
Trying to tie up all the loose ends for the year.
Met with Neal in RamCard regarding getting RamRide’s number back on the back of the RamCards. He said he is open for discussion on it, but hes afraid of the back of RamCards becoming a directory. He said to have the next director come talk to him about it.
Met with Jeannie Ortega to wrap up our discussions for the end of the year.
Met with the LSC facilities guys regarding the office expansion. The plan, after discussing with multiple people and getting lots of student input, was unfortunately changed drastically at the last second. The project will begin just after the 4th of July, and be done by 1st of August. We will be helping Campus Activities clear out their stuff from that storage room, so if you are around the week after finals, we could use the help! See me for more details if you are interested.
We operate this weekend, and then we are done for the year! All the RamRide staff members are excited to end the year and have a break. We are having an end of the year dinner for the department next week.

Judicial Report – Jake McMahon
WEEKLY MEETING. This semester, our meetings are in Room 232 of the Lory Student Center on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Remember, nearly all parts of these meetings are open to the public. If you are interested in checking it out, come talk to a member of the Court.
ALL UNIVERSITY HEARING BOARD. We may have another follow-up meeting with a student org. before the year is out, but it’s possible that we’re finished for the semester. I should know more this week.
END-OF-YEAR REVIEWS. The members of the Court have decided to undergo voluntary performance evaluations over the next few weeks with our advisor, Paul Osincup. I applaud the justices for taking up this effort to enhance their ability to serve students.
CHIEF JUSTICE NICK YOSWA. Last week President Gearhart nominated, and the Senate confirmed, Associate Justice Nick Yoswa to serve as ASCSU chief justice for the 2010-11 school year. Congratulations to Nick and thank you to all the applicants. The Court remains blessed with more interest than positions (though see below). It was a pleasure to sit in on the interviews. I was thrilled with the quality and preparation of all the applicants, and I appreciate the attention President Gearhart gave to the interview and selection process. Best of luck to Nick and the entire Court for the coming year. I’ll be doing all that I can to ensure a smooth transition.
ASSOCIATE JUSTICE OPENING. With Justice Yoswa’s ascension to the chief justice position, there will be an empty associate justice seat. Interested parties can consult members of the Court about job descriptions/duties. I expect President Gearhart will announce his plan for selecting a nominee shortly.
