Newsletter 13th April 2016
Welcome back to the summer term at Thornford School. We have another busy term ahead with lots of exciting things happening.
These include visits to Lesson House, Gore Farm, Ryewater and Weymouth.
Year 6 will be visiting The Gryphon School for their Induction Day.
Years 3,4,5 & 6 will be going to see “The Arabian Nights” at Sherborne Girls School on 21st April.
SATs:-The Year 2 and Year 6 children will be taking their SATs. We do not want your child to worry about these tests at all. However we do want them to be prepared and would encourage the Year 6 children to look at the BBC Bitesize KS2 SATs website which is a fun and effective way of consolidating what they have learnt at school.
Fairtrade:-The school has been awarded the “Fair Active”award by the Fairtrade Foundation. Our thanks go to Mrs Norris and the Eco club for their input with this.
Growth Mindset:-We hope that you enjoyed the parental workshop/assembly on Growth Mindset and would appreciate any feedback that you may have. Please use the Growth Mindsetpositive attitudes to learning and language and let us know if you notice any change in your child. We have already noticed a positive attitude to learning by the children in school.
Elm Class:-Mrs Karen Lewis was unwell before Easter and unable to take part in the Parents Evenings. A letter has now been sent out informing Elm Class parents of the alternative dates that have been set. Mrs Lewis is keen to chat to all Elm Class parents to discuss their child’s progress.
Mile a day:-We are encouraging our children and staff to take partin the“Mile a day” scheme. This involves running or jogging a mile round the playing field and playground sometime during the school day.
Club Slips:-These will come out today. There may be a small charge for tennis and cricket. We do not have these flyers yet and therefore we are unsure how much the charge will be.
Forthcoming Events:-
April 15th:-FTS Race Night 7.30pm in the new hall - tickets for the event cost £5 and raffle tickets at £1 are available from the school office. Mrs Elaine Harding is retiring as Chair of the FTS and we thank her for all her hard work in this capacity.
