Ambassador Program Expectations

If selected as a National 4-H shooting Sports Teen Ambassador, you will be representing over 300,000 youth across the United States. What you say and what you do is very important. Remember, you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. As an Ambassador you will be meeting with donors who are CEO’s of companies or organizations and you always need to put your best foot forward. The way you dress, the way you talk and act are very important when you are serving as an Ambassador.

You are expected to be on time, so plan to be early to any event.

You will be traveling to different parts of the United States and you will be flying on airplanes by yourself. You will be met by your chaperon for the event at the airport, usually at baggage claim. Your chaperon will deliver you back to the airport and get you through the ticketing counter and security. If you have a cell phone, you need to have it with you and have the chaperon’s number and Jim Simms’s phone number with you.

Your flights will be booked through the travel agent for the National 4-H Shooting Sports program.

You need to respond promptly to any emails or phone calls from the Program Coordinator and your chaperon for the event.

It is very important that you send thank you notes immediately the event. You will be given names and addresses so that you can fulfill this obligation.

You may get tired at these events, but you always need to be cheerful and ready to respond positively to everyone.

Ambassadors will be on a national list serve that is only accessible through Conrad Arnold, Technology Rep for the National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee.

While on an ambassador trip, your chaperon will be your surrogate parent. You will not be allowed to go off with other youth you may meet while representing National 4-H Shooting Sports. Curfews for being in your room will be enforced.

If your parents want to travel to any of the events in which you are participating, they will be responsible for making their own travel arrangements and reservations and paying for them. We may take you to events for which your parents may not be able to purchase tickets because they are sold out prior to the event.

At these shows and events, you will be on your feet for six to nine hours a day at our booth and other activities prior to going out to dinner in the evening. Our experience tells us that you will get tired and irritable after two or three days of strenuous schedule. Make sure you get your rest so that you don’t get tired and irritable.

You will be doing photo opts with donors to present thank you gifts and maybe even have your picture taken with some one like Tom Selleck, General Schwartzkoff or the CEO of NWTF, NRA or one of our major national industry donors.

Ambassadors serve at the will and pleasure of the National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee and can be removed for misconduct or not following the rules.

“It is the policy of the National 4-H Shooting Sports Program, that no person shall be subjected to discrimination on the grounds of race, color, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital or parental status or disability.”
