To find the upper and lower quartiles, the median, and the outliers:

TRACE use ◄ ► to move the cursor along the graph.

Catalog Option

The catalog function is a short cut to calculator options.

ENTER [CALATOG]

The catalog function is automatically in alpha mode so any letter

you specify will take you to the list beginning with that letter

Clearing Out Memory

Clear out RAM memory

2nd + 7, 1, 2

Clearing out all memory

2nd + 7, ► ► ENTER 2

“Resetting all …” will appear on the screen , then,

“TI-83 Plus

Comparing Real Numbers

Suppose you wanted to compare 5/8 and .1468.

Type in 5 8 2nd MATH

Choose one of the logic symbols

Then type .1468 and ENTER

If the response is 1, the comparison is true.

If the response is 0, the comparison is false.

Display Entries (for the coordinate plane)

MODE , FULL, Horiz (splits the display horizontally with

the graph and the table, or the working display )

MODE , FULL, G-T (splits the display vertically with the Graph and the Table)

2nd and ZOOM (the format key), highlight GridOn (turns the grid

on when the graph is displayed) ENTER

2nd and ZOOM (the format key), highlight LabelOn (labels the x

and y when the graph is displayed) ENTER

Fractions

- Use division key / to enter fractions

- Use ( ) to isolate numerator and denominator

Mixed Fractions

Remember to use parenthesis when keying in mixed fractions.

Example: 2 ½ should be entered 2 + ( 1 ÷ 2)

Example: -2 ½ should be entered -2 + ( -1 ÷ 2)

Graphs

- 2nd y= (stat plot), choose plot, turn plot ON, choose graph type,

choose data list, choose mark,

GRAPH

- Set WINDOW or use ZOOM #6, #9, #0

Inequalities

Enter the inequality just as you would an equation

Scroll back using the ◄ ◄ until the \ is highlighted.

For less than press ENTER four times until appears

For greater than press ENTER three times Until appears

Then press GRAPH or ZOOM 6 to display the graphed inequality

Linear Regression

Enter data in List 1 and List 2

STAT, CALC, #4, Enter (defaults L1, L2)

-  STAT, CALC, #4, VARS, YVARS, #1, #1,

-  Enter(sends equation to y=)

Or

STAT, CALC, #4, Enter (defaults L1, L2)

y=, VARS, 5, EQ

Lists

STAT EDIT to enter data

Data can be entered in one list for:

·  Mean, median, mode

·  Box-and-whisker plots

·  Ordered pairs

·  Dilation

·  Translation

Mean, Median, and Mode

[STAT] 1

Enter data in L1 Enter the data into the list (see the List card)

STAT ► 1 ENTER ENTER

The mean (average) is identified by x.

Scroll down (about three times) to find the median (middle) which is identified as Med.

To find the mode (most popular or most frequent):

First, sort the list

STAT 2 2nd [L1] ) ENTER

Then, scroll through the data (or list) using the arrow keys and

identify the number most frequently displayed.

Order of Operation

- Use ( and ) to tell the calculator which operation to perform first.

Retrieving Entries

To retrieve a previous entry:

2nd Enter continue pressing this combination until the desired entry is retrieved.

2nd [STAT PLOT]

Enter Enter ▼

Enter ▼ 2nd [L1]

Enter 2nd [L2] Enter

- Graph the data

ZOOM , 9 , Use the TRACE feature and the left and right arrow keys

to move from one point to another.

Simplying Radicals

When simplifying radicals, the largest perfect square is factored out.

Division is used to “factor out” a number from another number.

Use the variable “x” to the second power to represent the perfect square “x2”.

Create an equation for find the highest perfect square.

y = the number under the radical divided by x2

Example: ; y = 24/ x2

Enter the equation in the calculator by:

Look at the answers to this equation in the table.

To find the answer, look for the highest number in X that has a whole number in Y.

(x is your input and y is your output)

Solving Equations

Y=

y1 = Enter the left hand side of the equation

y2 = Enter the right hand side of the equation

2nd graph

scroll using ▼ and ▲ keys looking for y1 and y2 to be equal.

You many have to change your table set options by 2nd TBLSET ▼

assign a number less than 1 (like .5 or .1) in ∆Tbl=.

If you have multiple choice, use the ask option:

2nd TBLSET ▼ ▼ highlight Ask in the Indpnt: option by ► ENTER

2nd graph enter you multiple choices in the table and Enter The calculator will display the answers

for y1 and y2 (remember, they need to be equal).

Square and Square Root

Remember to use parenthesis when squaring a negative number.

Example: for -42 use ( - 4 ) 2

Storing Values

To store or substitute a value in for a variable

Al A

To store 8 in the value in the variable A:

8 STO → ALPHA A ENTER;

Enter the expression using the same valuables used to store the value(s).

Then press ENTER

Tables

- enter equation in y=

- 2nd GRAPH (table) shows x, y table

-  2nd d (TblSet)

-  TblStart –(sets table start values)

-  ∆ Tbl (sets the increments)

-  Ask – allows you to determine the value of x
