of COST Action E54 Publication Task Group Meeting

at Latvian Academy of Sciences, Riga

Book Title:“Characterisation of the fine structure and properties of papermaking fibres using new technologies”.

Participants:

Chairman Paul Ander, Arnis Treimanis, Tomas Larsson, Philip Turner, Sabine Heinemann, Pasi Kallio, Pedro Fardim, Uldis Grinfelds, Laura Vikele. Wolfgang Bauer has given his comments by e-mail and participated in discussion later the same day. Not present: Antje Potthast.

P. Ander showed a compilation of all contributions at earlier workshops: Riga 2007, Graz 2008, Budapest 2008, Tampere 2009 as well as a the upcoming meeting in Grenoble October 2009. He gave hispreliminary plans and schedule for production of the COST Action E54 Book. Division in chapters, time schedule for opening the call, receiving contributions, refereeing and printing was discussed in some detail by the meeting.

Points from the discussion: Properties of Common pulps I (undelignified & delignified) from May 2007 and Common pulp II (delignified) from July 2008 will be presented in one separate chapter. The call for contributions will be opened in Grenoble 9th of October. One person from each Institute/University and responsible for manuscript writing will be appointed. Format mainly as in Riga 2007, number of pages for each article 8-12. A template, as a full publication paper, will be distributed to all Action E54 members. Deadline for contributions 1st June 2010. Sending by the editor to referees before end of June 2010. Back to editor from referees before end of September 2010. Compilation, writing and design of Book format and other formalities done by Action chairman and editor during September-October 2010. Printing in November 2010 at SLU, Uppsala. Deliver the Book at the Final Conference in Cambridge. Certain copies will be sent by normal post. (End of Action is 2010-12-17, Final Conference may take place in 3 months time after the Action expires).

Extra discussion at Hotel Konventa Seta before lunch 11/9 with Sabine Heinemann and Pasi Kallio.

The book chapters were further discussed and he following four chapters proposed:

0. Preface/Introductory chapter

1. Advanced analyses on Common pulps I and II and other pulps

2. Results of standard pulp and paper tests on Common pulps I and II

3. New and emerging methods such as microrobotics and microscopic techniques

An introductory text describing the outcome of COST Action E54 will be written by

A. Treimanis in cooperation with P. Ander. A short introduction will be written for each chapter.
