Candidate Information
Qualifications for WV Japanese Immersion Summer Camp:Japanese LEAD Instructor
- Native-level Japanese language proficiency
- Native-level Japanese cultural knowledge and expertise
- Previous experience presenting Japanese language and culture
- Previous experience teaching Japanese language preferred
- Previous experience working with elementary children preferred
- Intimate knowledge of local Japanese community and resources
- Previous experience working within a Japanese Immersion summer camp preferred
- Ability to legally work in the United States
Commitment to the Project
- Participate in a minimum of four on-site/ pre-program trainings.
- Complete three sets of program curriculum.
- Develop extracurricular activities and materials related to the Japanese Camp theme.
- Supervise lesson/activity planning and submission of all Japanese Camp instructors.
- Deliver/Facilitate instruction during the West Virginia Japanese Immersion Summer Camp program at Altizer Elementary during the 10 days of the program.
- Deliver/Facilitate instruction during the West Virginia Japanese Immersion Summer Camp program at Scott Teays Elementary during the 5 days of the program.
- Provide language consultation prior to the start of the Japanese Immersion Summer Camp program.
- Collaborate with the Site Coordinator and the Project Coordinator to plan culturally authentic meals and order authentic materials to be used in the implementation of the program.
- Assist the Project Coordinator in securing culturally authentic resources for the program including music, images, props and specialized presenters if needed.
- Provide limited language translations as needed for program materials.
Project Incentives:
- $1,000 for participating in the four days of training and planning meetings
- $750 for program curriculum development (3 sets)
- $3,750 for delivering/facilitating/ implementing/ reflecting upon instruction as a LEAD Japanese Instructor during the 10 days of the WV Japanese Immersion Summer Camp in Huntington, WV
Project Timelines:
- April 13, 2016: Notification of Acceptance
- June 2 & 3: Trainings, Professional Development, Ordering of Materials , Program Planning and Set-up, Program Set-up at Altizer Elementary School – Huntington, WV
- June 6 - 17, 2016: WV Japanese Immersion Summer Campin Cabell County- Huntington, WV
- July 7 & 8, 2016: Trainings, Professional Development, Ordering of Materials , Program Planning and Set-up, Program Set-up at Scott Teays Elementary School – Scott Depot, WV
- June 11-15, 2016: WV Japanese Immersion Summer Camp in Cabell County- Huntington, WV
