The Adjutant's Minute

I hope everyone has a great holiday season. Since this the last newsletter of the year I feel I must remind you that this is the last opportunity to pay your dues. As of Jan. 1 if you do not have a 2018 dues card you are delinquent which means you are no longer able to purchase an alcoholic drink, participate in the drawings or any activity in any Legion post. If you have gone to your winter home and have forgotten to pay your dues you can send it to the Post along with the $40. Your name, address where you want your card sent, to: Garrett American Legion Post # 178
515 W. 5th Ave
Garrett, IN 46738

I would like to thank all the members (Legion, Sons And Auxiliary) that help doing things around the Post, this is what makes this Post the great Post that it is.

Thanks and I hope you have a great winter.

Charlie

From the desk of Nancy Lantz

We would like to congratulate the winners of the $25 Gas Gift Cards provided by the Ladies Auxiliary for each blood drive.

1.  Leslie Ellis Skal May 2, 2017

2.  Greg Nickels June 27, 2017

3.  Shirley Randall August 22, 2017

4.  Gloria McPheeters October 17, 2017

The Auxiliary also provides cookies and sandwiches for every other blood drive sharing this responsibility with the Garrett Tri Kappa Sorority.

I have enjoyed the many years as a Red Cross volunteer! The Red Cross needs blood donors so give consideration to being a donor. The next blood drive will be on December 12, 2017, 1-5:30pm. Come give blood and take a chance to win a $25 gas gift card. The average number of donors 27 so that would be good odds for you being a winner!

Thank You,

Nancy

COMMANDERS CORNER

Wow, here we are, so not ready to see our summer slide away. Already a month into our fall season but it has been beautiful outside. Get out and enjoy the color before old man winter gets here.

First off I want to thank everyone that helped in the Fair Raffle. We had another successful year at the Fair all due to our members who took the initiative to sell tickets and to our membership who responded to our mailing and bought the tickets we sent out. I need to give a shout out to Don Gibson, Gibby, for all his help. Besides selling many tickets, he volunteered to accompany me as we went to different functions to set up and sell tickets. The S.A.L. did their part by volunteering a day of manning the tent and of course to the Vets that helped set up the tent and sell tickets at the Fair. Great job guys!

Of course we are in the middle of a new Treasure Hunt game that has proven to be a huge success. Every Thursday we have the drawing. Come on out and see what this is all about.

We are constantly making improvements at the Post. Some things are not noticeable but necessary. All the upkeep is to provide our membership with a club that you can be proud of.

As always, I invite all eligible veterans to join our Post and get active. We have had a hard time getting our veterans of the Middle East conflicts involved in our Post. I invite you to become a member here, if there are changes you want to see, let us know. We are brothers in arms that have answered our countries’ call. Let’s all work together and make our Post great.

Thanks you and hope to see you at the Post,

Mike Rhodes, Commander Post #178
