Opening & Closing Dates
Opening:
Planned opening in late 2005 in Epcot at Walt Disney World will be the U.S. Preview Center for Hong Kong Disneyland. Scheduled to open in December, the center will feature models and artist renderings of the Hong Kong park. This is great news, as I have a feeling that there will be a license plate produced for the opening. Hopefully this will make getting the plate easier than trying to obtain them from overseas.

News and Information
Catalog Statistics
The catalog has 624 items listed in it. That breaks down to 495 license plates, 81 frames, 32 bicycle plates, 5 property plates and 11 unique items. 319 of the 495 plates were issued from Walt Disney World and there are 131 plastic license plates among the 495-catalogued plates.
BK-SP-06 “Angels, California Angels” Bicycle plate
This bicycle plate was discovered on e-Bay in mid-December and was being sold in its original packaging. It is 3” X 6” in size and made of aluminum. Circa 1970’s.
CM-OT-07 “World Ears Icon (Walt Disney World)
Even though this plate had been listed in the catalog since September of 2002, it made its first appearance on e-Bay in December. The plate on e-Bay didn’t have the Velcro strips on the back as was found on the plate when it was first discovered. The plate sold for $500.00.
CM-OT-13 “Vista-United Telecommunications”
This unique plate was found on e-Bay in early December. Vista-United Telecommunications is the telephone company of Walt Disney World. Disney and the United Telephone System, which was started in 1971 as the Vista-Florida Telephone System, operate it. I suspect that this plate was used on Vista-United company vehicles. The plate sold for $510.00.
SP-AA-23 “ ‘A’ Angels”
This plate is an aluminum version of SP-AA-16 and was also discovered in early December on e-Bay.
2004 License Plate and related item releases
In 2004, seventeen new plates were produced and twenty-nine new plates were discovered that were not listed in the catalog. License plate frames and other non-auto plates are not included in this count, but are included in the list.
Of the seventeen new 2004 plate releases, fifteen were aluminum and two were plastic. Of the twenty-nine new discoveries there were nineteen aluminum plates and ten plastic plates.
It appears that the Disney plastic plates are on the way out. Disney didn’t release any new plastic plates this year. However, they did re-release three plastic plates from previous years. The two new plastic plates were from the Daytona Race Series, which were sponsored by Disney, but not released by them.
