(Dr. Marzano’s Rubric)
Research base for Principal Compass™
The Marzano Research Laboratory and Dr. Robert Marzano developed The Marzano School Administrator Evaluation System, which reflects the extensive study of four primary documents, including: (1) the Wallace Foundation study (Louis, Leithwood, Wahlstrom, & Anderson, 2010, (2) the study of what woks in Oklahoma schools (Marzano Research Laboratory, 2011), (3) the Marzano, Waters and McNulty (2005) meta-analysis of school leadership, and (4) the Marzano (2003) study of effective schooling.
These research documents were used to formulating the Marzano Framework and accompanying rubric of 24 categories of principal actions and behaviors identified. These categories were then organized into five domains: (1) a data-driven focus on student achievement, (2) continuous improvement of instruction, (3) a guaranteed and viable curriculum, (4) cooperation and collaboration, and (5) school climate.
