(AS ON 08 November 2006)
As per decision of the Fourth Session of the Council of the IJSG, the membership of 41 (Forty -one) Associate Members (List A) were approved by the Council.
The Secretary General was authorized to provisionally accept Associate Members subject to subsequent approval by the Council. Accordingly 2(two) Associate Members (List B) have been provisionally accepted by the Secretary General. Thus the total number of Associate Members is now 43 (Forty three).

RECORD OF RECOMMENDATIONS/DECISIONS OF THE SIXTH MEETING OF
THE PRIVATE SECTOR CONSULTATIVE BOARD (PSCB)
A. Opening of the Meeting (Agenda item A)
1. The private Sector Consultative Board (PSCB) reviewed the status of the Associate Members of the IJSG and suggested that the PSCB should have more members to include exporters, importers, traders, market experts, manufacturers together to make the Board more effective. The Board observed that letters of request may be sent from the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the PSCB to all prospective Associate Members, particularly in consuming countries to join as Associate Members (Agenda item A4).
2. The PSCB noted the comments of the delegates and requested the Chairman and the Vice Chairmen to continue efforts to get more Associate Members (Agenda item A4).
3. The PSCB noted the position of renewal of Associate Membership. The PSCB decided to send letters of request to all Associate Members to renew their membership on time (Agenda item A4).
4. The PSCB noted the financial statement of the PSCB (Agenda item A5).
B. Discussions on Ideas and Recommendations made in the PSCB Meeting (Agenda item B)
a) The feasibility/desirability of setting up Common Standards and Specifications for different jute products.
5. The Board noted the comments of the delegates and approved the recommendations of the Harmonization Committee for Raw Jute Standard.
b) Cooperation with buyers’/consumers’ organizations.
6. The Board noted the comments of the delegates and observed that efforts should be made to enhance the already existing cooperation between the buyers’ and consumers’ organizations. The committee formed for this purpose may formulate their recommendations for consideration of the PSCB.
c) Sharing of information generated including technologies developed by R&D Institutions on jute and jute goods and related matters
7. The Board noted with satisfaction the successful holding of Workshops in Nepal, Malaysia and Pakistan and requested the IJSG Secretariat to hold similar Workshops in other jute/ kenaf producing countries like Myanmar, Thailand etc. to promote sharing of information on R&D activities as well as on development of technologies apart from the drive on new membership for IJSG.
8. The Board also requested the Members concerned to send the reports of any study undertaken by their respective R&D Institutions / Organisations / Associations to the IJSG Secretariat so that the Secretariat could inform all the Associate Members of these information / studies.
d) Report on steps initiated for compilation of a database of tariffs on Jute and Jute products and non-tariff barriers relating to these products.
9. The Board noted the comments of the delegates and requested all Associate Members to submit information in this regard to the IJSG Secretariat for compilation. The Board also requested all the members to submit a country paper mentioning the existing problems on the above with appropriate suggestions for remedial measures to the IJSG Secretariat so that these could be discussed in the next PSCB Meeting.
e) Strategy for promotion of marketing of technical textiles including jute geo-textiles.
10. The Board noted the comments of the delegates and requested the members to collect more information about trade mark registration on geo-jute by a US company to enable the Board to decide on the issue in the next PSCB meeting.
f) Improvement of processing machinery.
11. The PSCB noted the comments of the delegates on the report submitted by Mr. Humayun Mazhar and requested the delegate of IJIRA to send all information about Enzyme production and treatment of jute fibres to the IJSG Secretariat. The Board also consented to the proposal of holding a workshop on Improvement of fibre quality by Enzyme treatment to be organized by PJMA.
g) Standard Jute Contract.
12. The Board noted the comments of the delegates and decided that the issue may be discussed if EUROJUTE provide their viewpoints / suggestions in writing to IJSG.
h) Overall strategy for the jute sector
13. The Board endorsed the Report “A Road Map for Jute”.
C. Consideration of New Activities (Agenda item C)
a) Promotional activities including Disposal Protocol for Jute Products
14. The PSCB decided to recommend to the Council for undertaking Market promotional activities to retain the existing market for traditional products and to create new market
for diversified products.
D. Date(s) of the Seventh Meeting of the Private Sector Consultative Board
15. The PSCB authorized the Chairman to fix the date of the Seventh Meeting of the PSCB preferably in July 2007 in consultation with Vice-Chairmen and the Secretary General of the IJSG (Agenda item F).
E. Adoption of the Record of Recommendations/Decisions of the Sixth Meeting of the PSCB
16. The PSCB authorized Mr. Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Consultant (Operations) to finalise the record of Recommendations/Decisions of the Sixth meeting of the PSCB which will be circulated at the Eighth Session of the Council of IJSG scheduled to be held on 24-25 April 2007 (Agenda item G).
17. The full report of the meeting will be distributed in due course by the Secretariat for information of Members, Associate Members and Observers.
