MINUTES/BOARD MEETING JUNE 2nd, 2007:

Western Sand Report by Ross McCown

Ross reported the sewer project to be at a cost of 150,000.00. The cost is to be split between MI, NL, Western Sand and CampKitaki. When ask what our cost would be per cabin it would be approximately $800.00 each. This would be a total cost of $133,000.00 to MI and NL. The boards are working in conjunction to see how Western Sand determined that amount. It was suggested at the meeting that Western Sand put in flow meters to determine the percentages of use of each participate.

Bump – Bump: We now have 2 sets of speed bumps installed again. We will leave these in until Labor Day is over and reinstall them next spring before the summer holidays start. Thanks to all who helped install these again. Please let us know your feelings, good or bad towards these, as we had discussed putting in more at the annual meeting. The vote was 11 for and 7 against at this time.

Gate update:

We have revisited the gate issue at our annual meeting. We took an informal vote of the 20 cabin owners that were present. The question was: Would you be interested in going forward with the gate on MI only? The vote was split almost evenly. We decided to turn it over to the board of directors and let them form a committee to research this further.

Boating safety

Remember that Kite Tubes are banned from use on the lake. Click on the link below to read an article from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission dated July 13th.

We would like to have voluntary compliance from association members, if this is not acceptable with any member’s we will put it to a vote of the association and add it to our bylaws if it passes. Western Sand made a call to Don Jewell to make sure we were addressing the issue of not using them on the lake. Please see a board member if you want to use one.

NEBCO began (2004) implementing that all existing and new association members or regular operators who operate a boat on the lake will have to take the Nebraska boating safety course.

Nebraska Boating Safety Course

Nebraska law requires any motorboat operator (including personal watercraft) under 18 years of age must complete a Boating Safety Course and be in possession of a course certificate when operating the boat. You must be at least 14 years of age to operate a motorboat (including personal watercraft) in Nebraska.

For your convenience, enclosed is the 2007 Nebraska Boating Guide. Visit for more information or call the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission at 402-471-5462.

Treasures Report:

At this time our annual balance is $4,337.00. We have not received association dues from 10 lot owners at this time. Please submit your $50.00 to either Western Sand with your maintenance fee or you can send it to our address at the top of the newsletter in South Bend.

Fishing Report:

The lake was shocked last month by the Nebr Lake Management Company with very low numbers of rough fish taken. We still have one more shocking scheduled for this fall and Rob suggested that we use it next spring or fall because of the low numbers being taken. He did propose that we continue with our stocking program to help with the rough fish numbers. He also said it would be fine to harvest our Walleye and Wipers now. He recommends that for every fishermen you only keep one Walleye and one Wiper per fishermen per day.

Blue Algae info:

Jolene Jefferies is working on a section for the directory that is dedicated to providing information about the quality of the lake water and how to keep it environmentally safe, including information about algae. See the attached document.

Boat Storage Area:

The boat storage area has now been cleaned up. The bill for the cleanup will be around $2,500.00.

Here are the new changes:

Ashland trash service will accept up to 6’ lengths of tree branches if put out on pickup day.

There will be no dumping of any kind of materials anymore in this area.

Western Sand will impose a $250.00 fine on anyone caught dumping there.

We need to get this stopped before we lose all of our privileges in this area.

The area will now be locked with a padlock. You may stop by any board members house and get a key for yourself. This will be a trial period of 30 days to see if the dumping stops. If the dumping continues MI agreed to go along with NorthLake’s wishes to only have a few keys issued to board members.

There is a lot more room for trailer parking now. A condition of our lease is that trailers are to be parked in this area in the summer months. Everyone needs to make sure their name & Lot # is on their trailer as another cleanup will be coming. We still have 5 or 6 boat trailers still on our common lots. These need to be removed and put in the boat storage area. They are very difficult to mow around and the grass gets very long which creates an eye sore to look at.

Float Night is Back

Our first float night with a band (Johnny & the Jokers) will be on July 28th at Lot # 33, John and Bunny Schrunk’s home starting at 4:30. The Band will play from 5PM till 9PM and the party will continue until ???????

Our second float night will be sometime in August (TBD) with the Bronson’s and Blair’s hosting. Watch for info on the message board and an e-mail later.

June 30th & 4th of July Activities

The annual fireworks show will be Saturday June 30th. Thanks to all of you that have donated to the fireworks fund this year. We are still accepting individual donations through June 30th. We have an additional request. We would like to see how many of you would help the fund by setting out a donation box and sign at your annual parties. This would be completely voluntary. This would help our 4th of July cause immensely, even if all of the guests would just put in a dollar or two. The board would furnish the donation boxes and the signs. Please let us know if you would like one of these so we can get ready for the celebration on June 30th.

NorthLake has invited MI again to the pancake feed and parade on July 4th. Anyone wanting to fix up their bicycles, 4 wheelers, cars, golf carts or go carts should do so and represent MI in the parade. This year the parade will continue on to MI so please turn out for it.
