Job Title:Deputy Shop Manager

Employer:Derby RSPCA

Location:Belper

Hours:2 week rota. 14 hours week 1, 21 hours week 2

Reports to:Shop Manager

Responsible for:Shop Team

  1. Purpose of the job
  • Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Deputy Manager will be trained in all aspects of managing the shop in order to become competent in assisting the Manager in achieving sales and profits targets, promoting the ideals of the RSPCA and the Branch and ensuring compliance with Branch policy.
  1. Principal Responsibilities

In conjunction with the Manager: to ensure that stock density, procurement, rotation and space allocation policies and procedures are strictly adhered to in order to maximise sales potential.

To be responsible for ensuring compliance with RSPCA and Branch Volunteering policies and paperwork.

To assist the Manager in developing a team of competent volunteer staff by selective recruitment and training in the following areas:

  • stock density and rotation
  • stock processing; sorting, hanging, ticketing, pricing, cubing and steaming
  • customer service - serving and assisting customers courteously
  • administration, till operating, cash handling, daily, weekly and monthly returns
  • housekeeping
  • merchandising, presentation and window display
  • To ensure a high standard of merchandising, presentation and display within the shop.
  • To ensure that the optimum price levels are achieved in conjunction with any pricing policy in operation.
  • When required; to open and close the shop, ensuring trading hours are strictly adhered to.
  • When required; to be responsible for the security of premises, stock and cash.
  • To promote and apply the RSPCA and Branch Health and Safety Policy.
  • At the direction of the Manager; to ensure that all administrative and accounting duties are completed accurately, ie daily banking and recording of income.
  • To promote the presence of the shop within the local community through in-shop activities and events in order to encourage good public relations.
  • To achieve and maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness throughout the shop premises.
  • When required; to attend and contribute to team meetings and training courses.
  • If required; to assist Manager in the formulation of the shop annual plan and budget and implement accordingly.
  • To assist and support in the implementation of changes and new initiatives as required by the Shop Manager, Branch Manager or Branch Trustees.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as may fall within the remit of the job and as requested by the Shop Manager, Branch Manager or Branch Trustees
