EVERTON SWIMMING ASSOCIATION

HISTORY

Everton swimming association was started in the Everton district of Liverpool in 1865 and used the bath house / swimming pool in Margaret Street not far from the city centre. Later on the club had to move to the Dovecot district of Liverpool and in the last 30yrs moved to the Huyton district and St Edwards College in Liverpool these pools have remained the home bases of the club. Throughout the various moves the club has retained its name and ethos of a competitive swimming club. We have gained the swim 21 teaching and skill development award.

Everton S.A has always run a squad programme from early years to masters and this continues to be the case today. See the individual squad sections for a more in depth guide, below is a summary of how a swimmer progresses through our club:

LTS Group-Group 1->Group 2->Group 3->Group 4->Bee Squad->Inter A Squad or A Squad.Everton swimmers also now use the Liverpool Aquatics Centre for 50m pool training so the club now uses 3 different facilities.

Open water training

Some of our swimmers have been and continue to be involved in open water swimming and will train at the Salt House Dock in Liverpool. Some brave swimmers will be attempting the Great Northern Swim. In the past swimmers have competed all over the country: Bala Lake,Ulverston and Rivington Pike. In 2005 five Everton swimmers became the youngest mixed team to successfully cross the English Channel.

Everton SA Easter Course

Each year at Easter the club holds a four day training camp which includes swimming and land training two sessions of each per day. The swimmers are put into two squads and work according to their ability. At the end of each day there are timed swims for each swimmer the times of which will go forward to the fun gala on the final day. The team managers of the gala are usually unsuspecting parents or new coaches; this is to involve the whole camp in a fun filled afternoon.

Competitions

Everton S.A has a series of competitions that we undertake each year.

Faye Lafferty Development Gala:

This gala was initiated in memory of one of our swimmers who sadly died at the tender age of 8 yrs old. It’s a development gala held for those swimmers who have little or no previous competition experience and is ages 9 – 12.

The gala is a fundraising even and is run annually with invitations sent to various local and North West clubs. In the past the following clubs have been invited to compete: Bridgefield,Prescot, Bootle and North, Birkenhead, Fleetwood and Crosby to name but a few.

Club Championships and Other Competition

Everton S.A hold regular mini swims for all the swimmers in the group stages of the club. Awards and medals are given in all age groups.

The club also holds in house gala’s with the whole club being invited to take part in 3 competitions. Each member of the club is allocated a team which they will remain in for their time with the club “Sharks” “Otters” and “Dolphins”.

The overall winners of the series of galas are awarded a trophy at the club presentation. The idea of these galas is for club unity and to keep a link between the older swimmers and the newest members of the club.

Everton S.A holds the club championships during December each year and we include every age group and every distance. We do hold BAGCAT awards which id very beneficial to swimmers and coaches alike.

The club holds a presentation evening with the emphasis being a celebration of the achievements during the previous year.
