6. BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK
6.1. NEED FOR THE STUDY.
The prevalence of the skin diseases is about 15% all over the world.Ayurveda designates most of the skin diseases under kustha roga.The literal meaning of kustha is “…Kushnati tad vapuhu1” means the roga which causes the discoloration, disfiguration bringing disgrace upon the bearer.Vipadika is one among them. The above simple definition of kustha roga emphasizes its social implication and how both vaidya and patient should put utmost efforts to cure the diseases from its roots.
The classical signs and symptoms of vipadika are pani, pada sphutana and teevra vedana, by which in the present society it hinders the personal, social and mental status of a person depending upon its severity and leads to great agony and discomfort.
In between the hectic schedule of today’s life, there is a need of simple and effective remedy in order to regain the texture of hand and foot cosmetically and to gain relief from the symptoms. The shamana measure has excellent results in the form of lepa also. By further research on the findings of vipadika, it would help us to extend the application of the formulation in specific method and how efficiently it can be employed, even though there are remedies in alternative sciences.
By considering all the above mentioned facts, an external application Dattura beeja taila is chosen here which is inferred to be beneficial. The cutfar ointment is chosen in order to do the comparative study.
Hence the clinical study will be undertaken as-“A clinical comparative study in vipadika by external application of Dattura Beeja Taila and Cutfar ointment”
6.2) REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Charakacharya mentions Vipadika as one among the Ekadasha Kshudrakusta2.
Vipadika is considered as one among eighty vataja nanatmaja vikaras3.
The classical signs and symptoms of Vipadika as mentioned by charakacharya are hasta, pada sphutana with teevra vedana4.
Sushruthacharya mentions the classical signs and symptoms like Daha
atikandu; ruja when manifested in pada is called vipadika5.
The classical signs and symptoms of Vipadika according to Vagbhatacharya are Manda kandu, saraga pitika in Pani and Pada6.
Thodara explains that kustha is the one which reproaches the body7.
The kustha is caused by all the three doshas which vitiates Twak, Mamsa, Raktha and Ambu all together called as saptha dravya sangraha8
The main doshas involved in vipadika are vata and kapha.9.
Dattura Beeja Taila is indicated in Vipadika by Acharya
Chakrapanidatta10.

6.3): OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
1) To study in detail about vipadika.
2) To access the efficacy of Dattura Beeja Taila in Vipadika.
3) To compare the effects of Dattura Beeja Taila and Cutfar Ointment in
Vipadika.
7. MATERIALS AND METHODS:
MATERIALS:-
1) Dattura Beeja Taila
2) Cutfar ointment (Ban pharmacy)
METHOD:-
External application on the cleansed part.
7.1) SOURCES OF DATA:
The Literary source of the present work will be the Vedic scriptures,
Classical texts of ayurveda, published articles in reputed journals and websites.
The diagnosed patients of Vipadika will be selected from OPD, IPD
And special camps conducted by DR.B.N.M.E Trust's SMS PG & RC,
Bijapur.
7.2) METHOD OF COLLECTION OF DATA:
Diagnosed patients of Vipadika will be randomly selected in
Consideration with age group, irrespective of sex, caste, occupation, socio-economic
Status.
A comparative Clinical Study will be done on 40 patients, further where
they will be assigned into two groups of twenty patients; viz-Group A & Group B,
excluding the dropouts.
Data will be collected from each group before treatment, during treatment and after treatment .Follow intervention will be compared and analyzed using students ‘t’ test consulting the biostatician .
STUDY DESIGN:
Mode of study will be comparative analysis of two groups viz group A and
group B.With sample size of 20 patients in each group;For,Group A-external
application of Dattura Beeja Taila;Group B-external application of cutfar ointment
will be advised for 30 days.
The data will be collected from each group before treatment, during treatment
and after treatment. Follow up intervention will be compared and analyzed using
students‘t’ test consulting biostatician
CLINICAL PARAMETERS:
SUBJECTIVE- The classical signs & symptoms as mentioned below are graded
And accessed accordingly,
1) Hastha Pada Sphutana.
2) Vedana in hastha and Pada.
OBJECTIVE-
1) Number of cracks on Hastha Pada.
2) Length of the cracks on Hastha Pada.
INCLUSION CRITERIA:
1) Diagnosed Patients of vipadika presenting with classical signs and symptoms.
2) Patients of age group in between 16-70 Yrs.
3) Patients of either sex.
EXCLUSION CRITERIA:
1) Patients with other systemic disorders like Diabetes Mellitus etc.
2) Patients under other treatment of vipadika.
