Dear Parents/Guardians
FAMILY APPLICATION FOR SCHOOL RUN SERVICES (PICK-UP DROP-OFF)
Thank you for your request for a School Run Assistant. I enclose an Application/ Registration form for your completion and return along with a form requesting information about the special requirements of children in your family for whom the Assistant will be in charge. Will you please return these documents along with the registration fee of £30 so that your application may be processed promptly? The introduction fee is due immediately an Assistant is selected in order to secure the appointment and complete the transaction. Our current arrangement fees stands at £360 for 0-6 months and £385 for 6-12 months. Enclosed also is a Declaration form, please read this carefully and sign the agreement slip. There is also a table setting out the fees for the service offered.
School Run Assistants are usually paid weekly. Drivers receive payment of £8.50 per hour and non-drivers start at £6.50 per hour (minimum 2 hours per session). You are responsible for any tax deductions and contributions payable to the Inland Revenue, unless the Assistant is declared self-employed and therefore responsible for his/her own tax submissions.

INFORMATION AND DECLARATION
All Carers/School Run Assistants who register with Home Away from Home, are in good health. A medical questionnaire signed by a doctor is required from all applicants. Carers/Assistants on our books all have extensive experience of working with children, most are trained possessing childcare qualifications such as NNEB, SEN, SRN, B.Ed, Btech, Montessori or other Childcare certificate, and/or are Registered Childminders with a local authority having gained their certification and several years experience. The majority are first aid trained, and those who are not are encouraged to receive training. They have references from at least 3 people stating that they are reliable, honest and trustworthy. Police checks have been carried out on applicants working in childcare establishments or local authorities; we do not register applicants with criminal records.
School Run Assistants/Carers fall into two categories (a) drivers and; (b) non-drivers. Drivers are paid the rate of £8.50 per hour. Non-drivers’ pay start from £6.50 per hour. A minimum of 2 hours per day applies. Carers/Assistants, will watch over child(ren) and babies whilst their parent(s) are out. They may be asked to get them up in the morning, give them breakfast, prepare them for school, take them to and collect them from school, give them a snack/meal, supervise homework, get them ready for bed, read stories, play etc. depending on the time of day of the assignment. They are employed by you so should they fall into the tax threshold, you will be responsible for tax, national insurance, and employer’s contributions (for those of you not versed in taxation and employment law, we recommend Nannytax agency who will assist you with calculations, payslips etc, Tel: 0845 226 2203). An agreement needs to be reached between you and the carer/Assistant as to the exact nature of the job and service/duties required.
- Once the Carer/Assistant has accepted your job and you have agreed to appoint them. The arrangement fee is then due. Arrangement fee for 0-6 months is £360 and for 7-12 months £385. All cheques made payable to Home Away from Home.
- The Carer/Assistant has agreed to be punctual, reliable, helpful and polite.
- School Run Assistants will have a clean, valid driving licence with cars properly taxed.
- Unless you have given written permission to the Carer/Assistant, they are not allowed to administer medicines or sedatives to the child(ren).
- They are not allowed to hit or spank any child in their care.
- They are not permitted to drink alcohol or smoke whilst on an assignment.
- They are not allowed to invite friends or relatives into your home.
- They will not leave the children unattended under any circumstances. It is important that you estimate the time you require the services of the Carer/Assistant as accurately as possible, if you are going to be late please notify the Carer/Assistant by phone.
- It is important that you leave at least 2 contact numbers of friends or relatives on whom the Carer/Assistant can call if there is a problem. You should also leave doctor’s details and information on any medication or prescription the child is taking. In cases of extreme emergency and if the condition is deemed necessary the Carer/Assistant will call an ambulance and will then notify you/emergency contact.
- Unless in an emergency, the Carer/Assistant is not permitted to make telephone calls without your prior consent.
- The Carer/Assistant is responsible for any costs incurred due to breakage, spillage, loss or damage to property, or phone calls made etc. It is important that you reach an agreement with them regarding settlement, as it is not the responsibility of Home Away from Home.
The client will pay the Carer/Assistant direct. Our recommended minimum rate is:
