2013 GRANT APPLICATION

The Center for Latin American Studies at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) will administer the first annual grant competition to come out of the agreement signed by the university and Chile’s ComisiónNacional de InvestigaciónCientífica y Tecnológica (CONICYT)toincrease academic exchanges and collaborative research projects.

ELIGIBILITY:

This grant opportunity is open to all researchers with principle investigator status at UC Berkeleyor researchers with a permanent affiliation with a Chilean research institution or institution of higher learning. Additional UCB and Chilean collaborators may include other faculty, researchers, and students.

Applicants must propose early-stage international projects and collaboration between Berkeley and Chilean researchers.

PRIORITIES:

Projects with a focus on science and technology, although the competition is open to all disciplines.

Projects that demonstrate the possibility of long-term collaboration.

Projects that propose a balanced exchange between UCB and Chile and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams.

PROPOSALSMUST INCLUDE:

  1. A completed application (including budget).
  2. A brief, joint project proposal (not to exceed five pages)that includes the following:
  3. A description of the collaboration with project partner and planned activities and exchanges;
  4. A description of how the project will continue after the CONICYT funding period ends;
  5. A timetable for completion of the project.
  6. CVs for the UCB and Chilean principle investigators(not to exceed two pages).
  7. CVs may be in English or Spanish.
  8. A letter of intent signed by both principle investigators (not to exceed one page).
  9. The letter must indicate a commitment to collaborate on the research project and to adhere to the proposed timetable.

USE OF FUNDS:

  1. Funds maybe used to cover travel, meetings, and workshop costs provided that they facilitate international projects and collaboration.
  2. Funds may NOT be used to cover salaries, materials, or student fees.
