Dr. Vijay Kumar Baraik (born 1971) has completed Masters, M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Geography from the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He joined IGNOU as a Reader in Geography in the School of Sciences in June 2011. He is trained in GIS, Remote Sensing and GPS from reputed institutions. Prior to joining IGNOU, he worked with the Jharkhand Space Applications Center (JSAC), Ranchi (Jharkhand) for seven years. Dr. Baraik has also worked with the Indian Institute of Dalit Studies (IIDS), New Delhi, Rough Guides (Dorling Kindersley), Penguin India Limited, New Delhi and the Census of India. His areas of interests are regional development and planning especially in the tribal areas of India and applications of geoinformatics in research and development. Hehas succefully applied geoinformatics in development planning and eGovernance.
