Junior Certificate Technology
- Circular M16/89 provided for the introduction of Technology at Junior Certificate level. Technology was introduced in 1989/90 and is now offered by over 200 schools.
- Applications are invited from schools wishing to offer Technology for the first time in 2003/2004. The attached application form should be completed and forwarded to the Department of Education and Science, Post-Primary Branch, Block 2 (Ground Floor), Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, by 21 January, 2003.
- The course must be delivered within existing resources; schools in the free education scheme selected to introduce the course in the 2003/2004 school year will, however, qualify for a once off resource grant of €6,348.69 (£5,000).
- The course is confined to one class group of 25 to 30 pupils in the first year of its introduction into schools.
- Schools which are already providing the approved Technology course need not apply again. These schools may offer Technology to more than one class group provided the necessary staff and resources are available.
- Details of inservice arrangements will be notified to schools approved to introduce Technology in 2003/2004.
- Please provide a copy of this circular to the appropriate representatives of parents and teachers for transmission to individual parents and teachers.
