Community Engagement Internship Program

The Community Engagement Internship enables Penn undergraduate students an opportunity to engage in work for the common good while also acquiring meaningful real-world experiences with nonprofit community organizations through an internship experience. Through the Community Engagement Internship, Civic House strives to create deep, reciprocal relationships with community organizations that help to build capacity and provide rich and meaningful experiences for our students.

The Community Engagement Internship provides funding to Penn undergraduate students to support summer-long and academic year-long internships at our selected community partner organizations. At our community partner organizations, Penn students engage in a meaningful social justice work, learn more about the city of Philadelphia, acquire real-world skills, and develop and grow through a mentorship relationship with a supervisor.

At Civic House, the students meet bi-weekly for meeting with the other interns. During these meetings, students explore aspects of their identity, the root causes of social justice work, and engage in reflection to develop critical consciousness with a cohort of students interning at other organizations.
