The Whitney Point schools and students were commended for being leaders in the Tobacco Free
Healthy School initiative and for having such fantastic student participation. Please see attached.
*Molly Feeney received special recognition for her efforts and appeared on Fox 40 News speaking
out against tobacco use and tobacco product placement in movies.
• Ms. Hayes, Ms. Breward (PTA President), Mr. Sweeney and Mrs. Hodkinson for the recent Turn Off
Your TV for TRA Family Activity Literacy Night! Please see attached.
• Mr. Peck and the High School Challenge Team for finishing 2nd out of twenty-eight teams in the
HS Challenge 2009 competition.
The Team will compete in Washington DC at the national competition. The team received a check in the amount of $1,500 from TC3 to help cover the costs associated with participating in the national competition.
• Mrs. Lindsley for her cooperation with the U.S. Census Bureau in providing information concerning our construction activities. Please see attached letter.
• Ms. Summers, Mrs. Gilbert and all of the band and chorus students for the recent spring concert.
• Stephanie Champney commended the Tioughnioga Riverside Acadamy students and staff for the
creativity in the production and performances of the concert held on May 4th.

a. BOCES Resolution
The Board of Education of the Whitney Point Central School District resolves to participate in BOCES services in the 2009-2010 school year. The Board of Education agrees to pay Broome Tioga BOCES the charges identified on the base contract according to the following schedule:
Eight equal payments beginning October 1, 2009 and ending May 1, 2010.
Also be it resolved that payments on supplemental contracts will be paid in accordance with the BOCES payment schedule.

Mr. Tasber asked the amount of the payments?
Mrs. Lindsley stated the district will receive the initial contract amount in July. At this time the payments are represented within the budget to which the district will make its request for services from.

c. Retirement Resignation
Mrs. Hibbard recommended Board approval of the retirement resignation received by Joy Rupert, Special Education Department Chairperson, effective August 1, 2009. Please see attached letter.

Mrs. Hibbard commended Ms. Rupert’s long career and dedication to Whitney Point.
Mr. Tasber asked the effect of this retirement on the budget?
Mrs. Hibbard stated the position will be replaced and requires certain qualifications.
Mr. Tasber asked if there could be savings, breakage?
Mrs. Hibbard responded there is the potential for savings.

d. Non-Resident Application
Mrs. Hibbard recommended Board approval for Kristine Cook, grade 9, to attend Whitney Point Central School District for the 2009–2010 school year. Please see attached information.

e. Field Trip Request
Mrs. Hibbard recommended Board approval of the Tioughnioga Riverside Academy Concert Band’s field trip to Dorney Park. Please see attached.

Mrs. Hibbard stated the paid chaperones are staff and the others are volunteers.

Addenda
Commendations
Mrs. Hibbard commended:
• The following bus drivers for their participation in the New York State Association for Pupil Transportation Rodeo - Transit Bus Competition held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at First Student in Binghamton, NY. The drivers of approximately 10 school districts were placed according to the combined results of a written exam and driving competition. Whitney Point secured the top overall placings as follows:
1st Place Veronica Gober
2nd Place James Clink
3rd Place Cheryl Maxson
4th Place Priscilla Ferrara
Congratulations were stated and pride in the accomplishment. Good luck was stated as they move on to competition in Albany.

Mrs. Hibbard stated the position will be posted, with candidates interviewed by a committee.
