Class Overview:
During this school year, you will be learning all about Life Science. This includes a variety of learning, from as small as the tiniest microscopic life forms, to as big as entire Ecosystems of living things depending on one another. We will cover 6 units of study: Nature of Science, Cells, Human Body, Genetics, Evolution, and Ecology.

· Pen & Pencil
· Loose Notebook Paper
Grading:
40% / Classwork/Homework / Includes bell work, labs, summaries, activities, computer based learning, etc.40% / Tests / Includes unit assessments, special projects and/or reports.
20% / Quizzes / Typically based on vocabulary words or Cornell notes; also notebook checks.

Science Fair:
· ALL students will be completing an individual science project in the first semester.
· Students in Life Science class will complete the project and participate in the class science review.
· Students in Advanced Life Science class will have the opportunity to submit their project into the school science fair. There will be an additional information packet concerning the science fair.

Policies & Procedures:
· Absences: All students will be allowed to make-up work in the case of an absence. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for missed assignments before or after any absence from class.
o If the absence is excused, students will have 5 days from the absence to complete work in order to receive full credit.
o If the absence is unexcused, students will have 5 days from the absence to complete work in order to receive up to a 59%.
· Late Work: Assignments turned in after the class period in which they are due will be accepted for half credit. Most assignments will not be accepted beyond two weeks of the original due date, but may be required to be turned in sooner depending on the assignment.
· Retakes: Students will have the opportunity to retake any test they have received a 69% D or below on. The highest grade the student may earn on the retake is a 70% C. Students will be given a study guide worksheet before each test. In order to retake a test, they must have completed the study guide and turned it in the day of the actual test. It is the student’s responsibility to request the retake. The retake must be completed during the next scheduled first period tutoring session, which typically is every Wednesday morning.
· Tutoring: If a student is having trouble understanding a lesson or needs assistance with a science fair project, they may meet with me for tutoring during first period. If needed, after school times could be arranged as well. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule tutoring.
· Extra Credit: Extra Credit must be approved and will only be issued if ALL assignments are complete and turned in.
· Cheating Policy: Any student caught cheating on any work will receive a ZERO for that assignment. Parents and/or Guardians will be notified. Refer to the Team 7B Academic Honesty Policy for further information.
· Laboratory: We will be doing some hands on laboratory experiments during this class. The laboratory contract, included on page 3 of this syllabus, must be signed and returned in order to participate in these activities.
· Technology: We will be using computers often in this class. Each student will be assigned to a specific computer. That student is responsible for that computer and will be liable for any damages. Any incidents must be reported to the teacher immediately to avoid consequences.
