COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS

announces

19th Annual Hugh M. Smith “Memorial” Open Golf Tournament

On Saturday, June 2, the St. Thomas/ St. John Golf Association (STSJGA) will hold the 19thAnnual Hugh Smith “Memorial” Open Golf Championship at Mahogany Run Golf Course on St. Thomas. Net proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Junior Golf Fund at the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) and will be used to support the Junior Golf program, Junior Golf teams and Junior Golf scholarships. The entry fee is $125.

Thanks to the success of past years’ STSJGA tournaments, Virgin Islands Junior Golfers have represented the territory at tournaments including the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Tournament in Barbados and the Doral Public Links, a world class event for junior golfers. Upcoming tournaments include the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Tournament in the Dominican Republic and tournaments in both St. Croix and Puerto Rico.

The STSJGA encourages new and beginning players to compete in this year’s tournament, regardless of age or experience. The tournament format will be all stroke play except stableford (format may be adjusted based on participation):

  • Men’s A Championship Flight 0-12 handicap (blue tees)
  • Men’s B Flight 12-22 handicap (choose your tees)
  • Ladies’ A Flight 0-22 handicap (red tees)
  • Men’s Stableford 23 handicap and above (white tees suggested; blue tees available to compete in the skins game)
  • Ladies’ Stableford 23 handicap and above (red tees)

There will also be an award for low Junior (gross score for golfers under 18 years of age).

Persons who are not able to play in the Hugh Smith Tournament, but would like to support the Junior Golf program, may make tax-deductible credit card gifts to the Junior Golfers Fund through CFVI’s website ( or by mailing a check to the Community Foundation at P.O. Box 11790, St. Thomas, USVI, 00801. Checks should be written to CFVI with a memo line indicating the Junior Golf Fund. Thanks to the generous support of the Community Foundation’s Angel donors, 100% of all donations go directly to support the Junior Golfers. There are no administrative charges.
