103.Presentation by Inspector Greg Prosser – South Wales Police
Inspector Prosser gave a presentation regarding policing in the Town Council’s area. He mentioned that 68 police officers who had carried out an arrest in this locality reported to him and worked a five shift pattern. He referred to 160 arrests in the Town Council’s area in the last 12 months, that the police station closed at 6.00 p.m. each day but contact with South Wales Police could be made via a telephone outside the building, he responded to questions dealing with drug/alcohol abuse in the Town, the number of crimes and anti social behaviour issue that had occurred in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, the hours when the CCTV was monitored, that there was a CCTV camera provided by the police adjacent to the bus station, how youths from “the Valleys”, would descend at Pontypridd in the early evening only to leave on the last bus from the bus station, how the behaviour adjacent to the Lido in Ynsangharad War Memorial Park had improved with the installation of CCTV cameras.
Inspector Prosser mentioned that the main issues in Pontypridd involve shoplifting and criminal behaviour orders, 9 of which had been obtained last year and 8 of which had been broken and the offenders sent to prison.
